Flyers look for their first win

by Tammy MacDonald

The Flyers looked to earn their first win in regular season play while the Colborne Cobras looked to extend their winning streak to 6-0 when they faced off in Colborne on Saturday night in the first part of a home and home series.

Flyers goaltender, Jason Tuck, surrendered ten goals in a 10-2 lose to the first place Cobras. Colborne’s goaltender, Jesse Einarsson, surrendered goals to Jason Dasilva in the first and Joe Harvey from Max DeBernardi and Jordan Babcock in the third.

On Sunday, the Flyers were back at home for the second half of the home and home series. The Cobras started the scoring in the first with two powerplay goals and an even strength goal, giving them a 3-0 lead at the end of twenty minutes of play.

The Cobras would score three more in the second before the Flyers would finally get on the board with a short handed goal by Max DeBernardi with 40 seconds left in the period. Jordan Babcock assisted on the play. With 1.1 seconds left Jordan Babcock would score another short handed goal from Keith Scott to make the score 6-2.

The third period saw two more goals for the Flyers. Keith Scott would score short handed 30 seconds into the period making that 3 short handed goals in just over a minute of play and Patrick Palmer would score on the powerplay with 6 minutes left in the game to bring the Flyers within two. Jordan Babcock assisted on the play giving him a total of three points for the night. Flyers goaltender, Jason Tuck, faced over 50 shots in the 6-4 loss to the Cobras.

Except for the 10-2 loss to the Cobras on Saturday night, the Flyers have been in every game. General Manager, Mike MacDonald, demands one thing from his players and that is effort. Whether the Flyers win or lose, MacDonald appears to be satisfied as long as his team works hard.

The Flyers next home game is Sunday, October 29th against the Picton Pirates. Game time is 3:00pm. COME JOIN THE EXCITEMENT!

Notebook: The Flyers troubles were compounded when suspensions were handed out to Brooks Taylor and Jason Dasilva in Saturday’s game against the Colborne Cobras…………Max DeBernardi was back in the lineup after being sidelined by an injury……….Jason Dasilva leads the Flyers with 7 goals and 4 assists in 6 games (11pts). He is 2nd in the league for goals. Flyers Captain , Jordan Babcock is close behind with 3 goals and 7 assists in 7 games (10pts). He is tied for 3rd in assists in the league.
