Feature Article - September 28, 2006Election Coverage
This Friday September 29, at 5:00 p.m., nominations will close for the upcoming municipal election. The News will provide coverage of the election campaign in North, South and Central Frontenac, as well as Addington Highlands , and Bathurst Ward in Tay Valley . We are trying to organise all-candidates meetings in 15 locations in the month of October. Check these pages for details over the next few weeks. As well, we will be publishing candidate profiles in the paper.
Even though the election is scheduled for November 13th, most people will have voted long before that, either through mail in, telephone or internet voting. This provides us with a unique challenge.
We have been informed that mail-in ballots will be sent out on October 16th in Central and North Frontenac and Lanark Highlands , so we will be attempting to organise meetings and run candidate profiles for these districts by the third week of October.
Addington Highlands , South Frontenac and Tay Valley Townships have opted for telephone/internet voting. PIN numbers will be mailed out to voters in mid-October, but voting will not take place until about November 4th (check with your township for the exact date) In Addington Highlands voting will take place from November 3 to 13. For these townships we will be holding all candidates meetings and publishing candidate profiles later in October.
