Normally new septic systems work good for 25 to 35 years without problems and re-inspections of these septic systems isn't necessary. Remediation tends to mean removing brush or small trees growing to close to the septic bed. Remediation problems can easily be taken care of through an education program directed at home owners with information packets sent with their tax bills. When a homeowner receives a letter from the township to re-Inspect their septic system then the owner has a limited time frame to show paperwork that their septic system is less than 25 years old. The owner then pays a nominal $15.00 fee to the township for the township to log the this information into the computers data base. If the home owner can't prove the age of their septic system then the township sends an inspector to date and inspect the homeowners septic system for a fee of $100.00. Where grey water may pose a problem especially on lakes then a plastic storage container can be placed above ground with a lattice framed cover for aesthetics. Where a septic system is partial or doesn't legally conform then it need to be repaired to conform. Well, that's my 2 cents anyway.
