North Frontenac Little Theatre is trying something new for its spring production of “Oliver!”: online ticket sales.

Traditionally, twice a year when production time rolls around, local businesses throughout Central and South Frontenac generously handle NFLT ticket sales as a way of supporting live community theatre. NFLT and theatre goers have been most appreciative of this generous and kind gesture, with NFLT happily including one of those local businesses in their 2016 Awards Ceremony when a Community Award was granted to Jocelyn and Nick Whalen of Sharbot Lake Pharmasave for their almost thirty years of ticket sales.

So why the change to online sales? As it turns out, there are a variety of reasons that NFLT is experimenting with this approach. First of all, most little theatres are now harnessing this practical technology to facilitate the management of ticket distribution and accountability. Instead of having to make regular checks with the local sales outlets as to how many tickets have been sold, or has the capacity been reached, or do they need more tickets and for which nights, now all can be tabulated simply, clearly and spontaneously online.

Another compelling reason that the NFLT is changing direction is money management. Collecting proceeds from ticket sales, making change, cashing cheques, counting coins, safeguarding the cash and getting it to the bank can be a challenging affair. Online sales go a long way in diminishing those concerns with immediately processed e-transfers or credit card payments with confirmation receipts and immediate bar-coded online tickets issued then and there.

So, when local business owner, Greg Rodgers, of Frontenac Experiences, approached the group with an offer to manage NFLT ticket sales, it seemed the logical thing to do was to accept. Rodgers describes the partnership as a win-win situation - he would relieve NFLT of all ticket sales responsibilities and, to promote his local business and our area, he would include special offers of theatre and dinner at Belong restaurant, or perhaps a weekend in beautiful Sharbot Lake coupled with live theatre and the option of a package deal including accommodation, live theatre and a restaurant meal.

For those theatre goers who do not have computers or who are not computer savvy, they could still be accommodated through a chat on the phone with Greg Rodgers himself.

Basically, this is how ticket sales will operate for “Oliver!”:

Ticket sales will open March 15th

For those not purchasing online, phone Greg Rodgers @ 613-453-6962

For those purchasing online (the preferred method), email Greg Rodgers: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and choose your choice of ticket options. You will then receive an email from Frontenac Experiences with a “Square Invoice” allowing you to pay for the tickets by credit card, debit or e-transfer

The NFLT Executive is anxious to see how this move to online ticket sales plays out. If successful, it may become their new way of doing business, making store-sponsored ticket sales a thing of the past.
