Another Saturday, another Maple syrup pancake breakfast in South Frontenac and we’re all the better for it. This time it was hosted by Votary Farms in the Perth Road Village church, as part of their annual Maple Fest.
Votary Farms, which has been in operation since 1919, provided delicious Maple syrup for pancakes made by volunteers on April 13th from 8:30 am - 2pm. Accompanied by a raffle draw, local vendors, face painting, juggling and a visit to the farm for endless maple taffy, the rainy day did not keep the crowds away.
For that Charity Katry, one of the owners of the farm and the social media manager, is grateful.
“It’s a rainy day but besides that it's going great,” she said. “There's so much happening in the village and the kids seem to be having a blast.”
Katry was born and raised at Votary Farms, and has been interested in and a part of the production of maple syrup “forever”.
Upholding an over 100 year old maple syrup legacy is no small feat but this year, with the birth of their social media account, Katry has been seeing good things.
“Votary Farms has been selling maple syrup since 1919 and up until this year it's always been word of mouth but we have always sold out which is incredible,” she said. “But we are so excited to share our farm with more people.”
Votary Farms will be selling maple syrup at Harrowsmith Farmer's market this year. For more information find them on Facebook and Instagram @votaryfarms.
