Throughout the month of March, Meals on Wheels providers across Ontario participate in a campaign known as March for Meals. This annual campaign aims to bolster awareness and community engagement with local Meals on Wheels programs, such as the Meals on Wheels program provided by Southern Frontenac Community Services.

From the diligent staff and volunteers working tirelessly in the kitchen to the dedicated volunteer drivers who ensure the meals reach their destinations, and the coordinating efforts of the SFCSC staff, each individual is invaluable. Together, they are able to bring nourishment and comfort to those in need.

The March for Meals campaign sheds light on the significance of informed food choices and of healthy eating habits. SFCSC understands the importance of nutritious food and a balanced diet in enhancing health, preventing disease, and fostering independence. By providing access to meals, the Meals on Wheels program enables individuals to age gracefully in the comfort of their homes.

On Wednesday, March 20th, Southern Frontenac Community Services (SFCSC) offered community members a unique opportunity to experience firsthand the invaluable work of their volunteer drivers. Through a ‘ride along’ on their meal delivery routes, participants gained insight into the essential service provided by the Meals on Wheels program and the profound impact it has on the community.

Among the esteemed community members who joined the ride along were South Frontenac Councillor Steven Pegrum, SFCSC’s Board of Directors Chair, Dan Eustace, as well as Louise Fragnito, South Frontenac’s Chief Administrative Officer, and Kim Perry owner of Food Less Travelled. Their presence showed their support for SFCSC's mission and provided an opportunity for them to witness the dedication and commitment of the volunteer drivers firsthand.

After the meals were delivered, the volunteers, their ‘ride along’ partners as well as members of the SFCSC staff came together for a heartwarming meet and greet.

Heather Rogers, SFCSC’s Executive Director, also attended Wednesday’s event. She took a moment to express her heartfelt gratitude to the volunteers and everyone involved in coordinating programs like Meals on Wheels and highlighting the collective commitment to serving the community's most vulnerable members.

The Meals on Wheels program is not just about delivering meals; it's about delivering hope, companionship, and a sense of community to those who may feel isolated or vulnerable. Each volunteer embodies these values as they go above and beyond to ensure that seniors in South Frontenac receive more than just a nutritious meal—they receive a moment of human connection and support.
