9.1.1. Implementation Committee Spring 2000 UpdateBy Marsden KirkThe Implementation Committee for the North and Central Frontenac 9.1.1.emergency response system reported in November '99 that the collection of data for the system would be completed in the year 2000. This information will then have to be reviewed by the telephone companies - which will take approximately 18 months.
In November, the Committee said the service would be available sometime in 2002.
That estimate remains the same although there has been a serious breakdown in Ward 2 of North Frontenac. A task force established for the purpose, and consisting of volunteers from the other wards and electoral districts comprising the committee, is currently dealing with this matter. Given the good weather, it is expected that the necessary data will be quickly collected and processed. In the other six geographical areas, the property identification process has been effectively completed. Preliminary maps have been printed and are now undergoing the editing required. Properties that were identified have been entered in the computer and assigned a municipal address, subject to edit which is ongoing at this time. Tenders for the supply and installation of road and address signs have been called for submission at the committee meeting of May 9. Draft by-laws whereby the official road names will be established will be recommended to the Councils of the two Townships in the near future. Road signs and numbers will be ordered shortly and we anticipate installation commencing later this year.
Upon completion of the foregoing, there will be two key matters yet to be dealt with. They are, a reported in November 1999: 1. Determine who will operate the Central Emergency Reporting Bureau (CERB). This is a key component in the system. It is the centre where emergency calls are received and from which appropriate services are dispatched. 2. Assign data to the telephone companies for their review, input, and preparation.
In summary, our previous estimate of service availability remains unchanged: sometime in 2002.
