Body of Nepean Man Found in Eagle LakeBy David BrisonThe provincial OPP diving team found the body of George Nitsche in Eagle Lake late Thursday afternoon on April 6, 2000. An extensive search for Nitsche was conducted during the week of January 17, 2000 when he failed to return to his Nepean home after spending a weekend at his cottage on Eagle Lake near Parham. There was speculation then that he had skated into an open hole in the ice. On Thursday, the diving team found his body, with the skates still on, washed up on the shore of a small island about .5 kilometres in front of the Nitsche cottage.
The diving team first searched the bottom of the lake with
sophisticated sonar equipment that is towed by the boat. This search
did not locate the body. The body was seen on the shore from the boat.
Detective Sergeant Dave Cook was in charge of the investigation.
Constable Doug Jones from the Sharbot Lake detachment participated in
the search. Jones searched the site by helicopter in January. The body
was found in the area picked out, as a result of the air search, as
being the most likely site for Nitsche to have gone through the ice.
