Haines and Leighton to join Fiddle OrchestraFor their final concert before breaking for the summer, the Blue Skies Community Fiddle Orchestra is pleased to welcome the duo of Mark Haines and Tom Leighton, who will join them at the Oso Community Hall on Friday, June 14, at 7 p.m.
They
will also be joining with Haines and Leighton for a number or two.
Mark Haines and Tom Leighton are a versatile duo who have been
involved in numerous musical projects. They appear frequently on CBC
radio. Mark Haines sings and plays guitar and fiddle while Tom
Leighton plays keyboard, sings, and plays a mean accordion if no one
is around to prevent him. The two play all sorts of music, from folk
to Cajun to rockn roll, and after many years on stage together and
with other musical partners they express an ease and joy in performing
that is remarkable to see.The Fiddle
orchestra is now a three-year-old institution and has seen much
musical growth this year, adding new instrumentation and widening
their repertoire. They have also been honed by stage experience.
Orchestra Director Carolyn Stewart has them performing as much as
possible, and rumour has it, is hoping to take them to the maritime
provinces next year. At a concert last weekend, the latest fiddle
group, the Blue Skies Beginners Fiddle Orchestra made their debut
performance, buoyed up by the established group. The progress these
players have made since their inception just three months ago is
remarkable. They will also be performing at the season ending concert.
Admission to the concert
is $5, and there will be refreshments available.
