Signs Sprouting in The Land O'LakesPhotos and text by David BrisonRoger MacMunn, owner of the Grove in Mountain Grove, has been making signs for the past 4 years. Spring is a busy time for him. Everyone wants their signs to sprout before the bulbs so that they can be ready for the first wave of summer visitors. Roger's signs are becoming a prominent feature of the Land O'Lakes landscape. He has constructed attractive signs for numerous businesses in the area, Tumblehome Lodge, Lakeside Bed & Breakfast, Harvey's Valu-Mart, The Sharbot Lake Motor Inn -- to name only a few. A recent addition to his road art is a large, centrally located sign on the side of the Sharbot Lake Pharmacy. The pharmacy logo is surrounding by four scenes from the area.

The owners of the pharmacy, Jocelyn and Nick Whalen, are very pleased
with the new addition to their building. Jocelyn, a pharmacist,
received her BSc Phm from the University of Toronto in 1983. She worked
as a pharmacist in Gananoque and Kingston before coming to Sharbot Lake
with Nick in 1991 to set up their own business. Nick has been active in
the community - serving as Chair of Rural Legal Services. The couple
have two children: Jacob, 4, and Meriel, 2.
