Lake Planning WorkshopLake or river planning: what is it? Why is it important? How will it affect our lakes? How do we prepare a lake plan? How does it relate to municipal planning? Get answers to these and other questions at the lake planning workshop in Perth on May 31. This will be extremely important if you are concerned about the future of your lake. Learn about the elements of lake plans and how to develop one. Local stewardship councils and conservation authorities along with the Centre for Sustainable Watersheds have arranged this first-class session for people in our area. Randy French and Dr. Neil Hutchinson will present the keynote address. They will discuss why we need a plan and who it can protect community water resources. Randy French has been instrumental in developing lake plans in the Lake of Bays region. He has extensive experience in shoreline management and is currently involved in developing a lake planning process. Neil Hutchinson has conducted and tested the Ontario Lakeshore Capacity Model and conducted research on water quality.

Gary Neilsen, the MNR Stewardship Coordinator for the Leeds County Stewardship Council will discuss the elements of a lake plan. He is a driving force behind the Charleston Lake Plan currently being developed. Key officials from local municipalities will discuss how lake planning fits into municipal planning process. In addition there will be breakout sessions on visioning, capacity modeling, data collection and putting your plan into action. There will also be displays on stewardship and planning processes.

The workshop will be held at the Perth and District Collegiate Institute, 13 Victoria Street in Perth, from 9:30 to 3:30. The registration cost is only $10 and includes lunch.
