OConnor will be retiring as the director of the Limestone District
School board in two months, and last week he returned to Sharbot Lake
High School, the site of his first posting as a High School Principal
back in 1984, when he acted as a substitute Principal for Tom Taylor.
Tom Taylor made the opening remarks at the ceremony, and then excused
himself to drive to Sydenham High School because his daughter was
graduating on the same night. A larger than normal group of students
graduated this year because of the double cohort. There were many
awards handed out for academic achievement and other accomplishments.
Multiple award winners included: Julia Kent, Neil MacMunn, Meredith
Rush-Inglis, and Mattea Sargeant. Arthur Cota delivered the
valedictory address. He thanked all the students for the supportive
environment that has buoyed him up since he entered the school as
a small ten-year-old boy. He also expressed the gratitude of the
graduates to the teachers and the support staff at the school, calling
the staff the backbone of our experience.
