Happy Travelers host Rally

Over 285 seniors from 25 area clubs attended the Zone 36 Rally held at North Frontenac Arena on June 5.

The event was hosted by the Parham Happy Travelers, who also hosted the rally in 2002, and although it is a lot of work, President Mauveen (Moe) Bush said that it was an advantage to have done it once before. Everything fell in place the last time, and so we thought wed have a go at it again.

All of the attendees seemed to enjoy the day, which included a great lunch by Pineridge Catering.

One of the highlights was the opening welcome by the Parham group, who did a hula dance as part of the presentation. Asked how that had come about, Moe said that at the planning meeting last fall, the Parham group had asked if there were any special features that the other groups would like to see. No one responded, until one gentleman said: Id like to see Moe do a hula dance! And so it was done on Saturday, with the said gentleman joining the group in the dance.

Entertainment was also provided by The Last Laugh from Kingston, the Old Tyme Fiddlers, and Dwayne Scudder and Frank Morrison (who must surely lose pounds in sweat every time Dwayne appears). There was also a Fashion Show, in which all of the clothes were entirely made out of garbage bags.

The hardworking planning committee was made up of Moe Bush, Mary Howes, Velma McIntosh, Gloria McEwen and Charlotte Brown. They did most of the work; however they received total support from the whole group. All of the Happy Travellers completed their assigned tasks, and everyone worked together to make sure the day went smoothly. The cooperation was wonderful, and it really took a load off the committee, said Moe, who is grateful to have such hard workers. Moe would like to thank everyone, especially Shirley & Elwood Kellar, who sold over $1500 in raffle tickets for the club.
