Nicol reconsiders resignation

by Jeff Green

Last week, Bill Nicol decided to step down as Public Works Manager in Central Frontenac. According to the township’s Chief Administrative Officer Heather Fox, Nicol did not give any reason when he submitted his resignation.

The resignation came after a very busy year for the township’s public works department. In addition to their normal road and facility maintenance work, the department has overseen several large projects, including the $6 million re-construction of Road 38, and the construction of a salt shed at the Piccadilly works yard this year.

The department is in the midst of another major construction project, a new fire hall, which is under construction on Wagner Road , near Sharbot Lake .

On Tuesday evening, however, CAO Fox told the News, “We’ve had a meeting, and he’ll (Nicol) be staying on for a while.”

All of this takes place at a time of great political change for the township. Last week’s election resulted in the election of a new mayor and five new councillors on the nine member council.

The new council will be sworn in on December 4th.
