The Flyers lost a close one, 5-4, to the Picton Pirates at home on Sunday afternoon. Head Coach, Pat Hilson, was impressed with the team’s efforts. “It was a hard fought game, both goalies played well and it was a very exciting ending as we threw everything but the kitchen sink at them to try and force a tie.”
Zac Moran started the scoring in the first with a powerplay goal. Josh DeLong and Jason Dasilva assisted on the play. Picton scored with 2:08 remaining in the period but Flyers, Jeff Tobin, with assists from Jordan Babcock and Jason Dasilva, would score nine seconds later to regain the lead.
Captain , Jordan Babcock would start the scoring in the second with a quick goal. Jason Dasilva and Patrick Palmer assisted on the play. It would be a 3 point night for Dasilva. Picton would score midway through the period on a powerplay goal to pull within one.
The third period did not prove favorable for the Flyers as the Pirates scored three even strength goals to take the lead. The Flyers would pull within one with just over two minutes remaining in the game when Ryan Gilmour beat Pirates’ goalie, Dan Monk, with an assist going to Adam Paquette. Despite a huge effort in the last minutes of the game, the Flyers couldn’t find the back of the net to tie the game.
The Flyers next game is Sunday, October 15, 2006 at 3:00 when they will host the Napanee Raiders. Come join the excitement!
