The blockbuster success of our annual July 15th luncheon and bazaar was certainly the highlight of the club’s activities during the past six months. That success was due to the large turnout of guests as well as to the tremendous effort so many of the members put into this event. I must mention Doreen Millar in particular, who sold an unprecedented number of admission and raffle tickets.
We were sorry to lose the Izzards, Menyes and Fourneys from our club membership. Each couple has re-located: the Izzards to Perth , the Menyes to Killarney , Manitoba , and the Fourneys to Brockville . On the other hand, we were very happy to welcome new members Val and Roy Beechy, Carol and Greg Morris, Lyn Howland, Brent Tillis and Wanda Harrison during the winter.
Hearty congratulations were extended to Rosemary and Peter Wadham who were presented with the “Volunteer of the Year” award in Sharbot Lake in June. Also in June, Jane Grigg, Peggy Breithaupt’s mother celebrated her 95th birthday and she doesn’t look a day over 65!
Travel convenor, Audr Tomkins, reported on the wonderful time five of the members enjoyed at the Fort Henry Sunset Ceremony Tattoo and dinner. I’m sure many more will want to take this in next July.
We wish all our members who are participating in the Portage la Prairie Senior Games this month the best of luck: Pat Tucker walking, Cy Tucker walking, discus and javelin, Diane Nicolson , Tom Christenson swimming, Jack Nicolson and Doug Smith contract bridge, Marg. Smith competitive running, Norma Pringle and Jim Kirkland Euchre, Bill Pringle and Barb Kirkland horseshoes and Peter Smiley Golf. Cheers to all!
Our annual hamburger barbecue will take place on Friday, September 15th. Octoberfest will be celebrated, with the assistance of a disc jockey on October 14th and the Christmas party is scheduled for December 1st. Lots to look forward to.
Ina Short will take over as Publicity Chairperson from Shirley Coutts, who is resigning as of this month. Watch for Ina’s lively reports in the New Year.
