February 16, 2006NFLTbrings South Pacific to Sharbot Lake this April
by Renny Stopford
North Frontenac Little Theatre's spring performance this year will be the musical South Pacific. This musical, written by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein, is set in the South Pacific
South Pacific islands near Japan during World War II. The story of South Pacific deals with the serious issues of war and racism while also including two romances and many humorous elements. Dream-duo directors, John Pariselli, NFLT's president, and musical director John McDougall, have already begun to demonstrate their directorial talents through instilling a sense of confidence in the already strong cast. The combination of a reliable cast, of which a large portion have already successfully acted in NFLT performances along with a pair of tested and true directors, means that we can fully expect South Pacific to live-up to NFLT's reputation for consistently putting on wonderfully watchable performances.
Auditions for South Pacific occurred in December and practices began in early January to prepare for the performances from April 27 through April 30. As usual, the performances will be held in the Sharbot Lake High School and will include one matinee for the last performance on Sunday, April 30.
The lead roles of South Pacific have been given to a promising cast of experienced actors. Craig Godfrey and Kristen Widenmaier play the romantic lead roles as Emile de Beque, a French planter and Nellie Forbush, a military nurse. Renny Stopford and Emily Dickinson play the characters Lt. Joseph Cable and Liat in the other romantic entanglement. Other main roles have been given to Pamela Giroux as Bloody Mary, Norman Guntensperger as Capt. Brackett, and Paddy O' Connor as Billis. Even more familiar faces can be seen playing other roles and singing in the chorus.
As we near the exciting April performances of South Pacific, several more articles will be posted in the Frontenac News, so stay tuned and keep reading for the latest news on NFLT's present work-in-progress. NFLT hopes to see all of you in the Sharbot Lake High School auditorium in April to experience our rich local dramatic talent; you shall not be disappointed.
