ATVdriver convicted of eight offences

Garry Price, 49, of Brockville has been fined $1,800, had his fishing equipment forfeited and has been convicted of depositing material on Crown land; driving an off-road vehicle (ATV) not insured; failing to apply to the Ministry of Transportation for new permits; using plate(s) that were not authorized for use on his ATVs; setting more than one bait-fish trap than permitted under his sport fishing licence; failing to put his name on his bait-fish traps

On September 23, 2006, a conservation officer in South Canonto Township stopped Price for a routine ATV inspection. After signalling for the driver to stop, the officer saw Price throw a can into the bush. After stopping, Price produced an ATV ownership permit but did not have proof of insurance. An inspection of bait-fish traps he had set nearby found that he had set more than the one trap allowed under his sport fishing licence. The officer agreed to meet Price at his campsite to give him an opportunity to produce insurance. Price failed to appear at the campsite as agreed. An investigation found that Price was uninsured, had not applied for ATV permits within the six days required for new owners of ATVs and used unlawful licence plates.

Price was convicted in absentia in the Ontario Court of Justice, Kingston, on July 26, 2007.
