Callus and uncalled for
On the morning of Friday, May 18, 2007 at approximately 8:20 a.m. my husband and I were driving south through the village of Verona when we saw a mother duck and her ducklings standing on the side of the road. It was very touching to see them. She stood on the shoulder and waited for us to stop then she started off across the road. They never made it across. A blue van in the northbound lane slowed, looked like it was going to stop, aimed their wheels, and then stepped on the gas. The mother duck was killed instantly and the babies were left on the road panicking. The vehicles behind the offending blue truck stopped and a man in a truck with farm plates rushed to the babies’ aid. I hope he was able to find a safe place for the ducklings. To the man in the farm truck I say thank you for your kindness, may your charitable act bring you many blessings. To the man in the blue van; I don’t care how bad your morning was or how much stress you have in your life; what you did was callous and uncalled for. I hope you at least feel some guilt or shame over what you did and find some way to make amends.
