It is time for me to circle back and talk about the progress of the Emergency Preparedness Plan (EPP) for the Lions Club of Land O’ Lakes. The club, after a major push in grant applications, individual community donations, and Lions support, was able to complete Phase 1 of the Plan.
The kitchen has been fully renovated to the current building codes for a shelter. To put it in detail, floors have been changed to non-slip uni-color. Countertops are all stainless steel or other non-porous material. Cupboards are well-fitted to make room for ease and safety of movement.
Another grant, along with the club support, helped in the re-building of the accessible ramp to current code.
The labour costs have often been reduced through the free workmanship of our club members, we are so thankful to each one of them.
We are currently in the process of raising funds for the next two phases, where the installation of the generator will, upon completion, be the end of Phase 2 of the EPP. Our main fund-raiser for this phase is the weekly progressive lottery, Catch the Ace. Thank you to everyone who has been supporting us by participating to play.
I would like to thank the anonymous donors for the generosity they showed, as well as all the people who have been slowly putting in coins and bills in our generator donation jar. You all make a difference.
The third and final phase will be rebuilding the accessible washroom to current codes.
We look forward to completing all three phases and having the ease of mind that our hall is there to support our community in the case of, God forbid, an emergency.
Till we meet again in a Roar, start removing your Christmas decorations, and look forward to the upcoming seasons in our beautiful Land O' Lakes area, and follow us on Facebook and in the Frontenac News to find out the many ways that we can support you, and the ways that you can support the club too.
