In both the Lanark Frontenac Kingston and the Hastings Lennox and Addington Ridings, the four major parties (Greens, Liberals, NDP, and the Progressive Conservatives) all have their candidates engaged in full time campaigning in the short run up to election day on February 27.

But they are not the only candidates.

Each riding has a number of candidates from smaller parties as well. The short election window has made it difficult to cover all the candidates in the two ridings. The candidates in the Hastings, Lennox and Addington riding, where our readers in Kaladar, Northbrook, parts of Cloyne and Denbigh live, include the incumbent Progressive Conservative Ric Bresee, Green Party candidate Mike Holbrook, Lynn Rigby from the Liberal Party, Derek Sloan from the Ontario Party, Glenn Tyrell from the New Blue Party and Jessica Zielke from the NDP.

The candidates in Lanark-Frontenac Kingston riding include Wendy Dillstone Whitaker from the Ontario Party, incumbent Progressive Conservative John Jordan, John MacRae from the NDP, Dave Motton from the New Blue, Shane O’Neill who is an Independent candidate, Rob Rainer from the Liberal Party, and Marlene Spruyt from the Green Party.

There are two all candidate meetings scheduled in Frontenac County. The first one is set for tonight, February 20, at the Storrington Lions Hall at 7pm, and the second is set for next Monday, February 24th at 7pm at Granite Ridge Education Centre in Sharbot Lake. As for election coverage in the Frontenac News, we ran question and answer columns featuring two of the major party candidates in Lanark Frontenac Kings ton (LFK) last week (Marlene Stpruyt and John Jordan) and we are running similar columns this week featuring John MacRae and Rob Rainer.

Unfortunately the other three candidates in LFK did not come to our attention in time for us to contact them and conduct interviews in time for this week’s edition, and the election coincides with our February 27th edition. Advanced polling is available on Febru ary 20-22 from 10am to 8pm. In Frontenac County, advanced polls in the LFK riding are located at the Harrowsmith S&A Club, the Inverary United Church Hall, Lough borough Public School in Sydenham, St. James Major Church Hall in Sharbot Lake, and the Verona Lions Hall. In Hastings Lennox and Addington, there is an advanced poll at the Lions Hall in Northbrook.
