The only surprise in the announcement that the Maberly Post Office will be closing on June 28, is that it is still officially open.
The Maberly Post Office service was suspended over a year ago, in March of 2023. A short hydro outage and other leasehold issues in the building that also houses the Fall River Café at the junction of Hwy. 7 and Lanark County Road 36, led Canada Post to say they would not be returning to the location.
The Maberly mail has been sorted and delivered out of Sharbot Lake ever since, and Maberly Post Master has been relocated to Hartington.
The notice about the closure said that although the post office is not open now, it is not officially closed, but will be at the end of the month.
Home delivery of the Maberly mail was not impacted by the closure, but parcel pickup for Maberly residents has meant a trip to Sharbot Lake for over a year now, and it will stay that way.
The Sharbot Lake Post Office is open from 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday, and 9am-12 noon on Saturdays.
