We are writing to express a matter of great concern for our community in Central Frontenac, Hinchinbrooke District 4, regarding the alarming absence of fire apparatus at Piccadilly. After reading the paper on Thursday June 6, where we read with great interest that the mayor reminded Councilor Nicki Gowdy that she serves the whole of Central Frontenac. However, we would like to point out that you Mayor Smith should serve ALL of Central Frontenac as well. Mayor Smith can you please explain why you are giving our fire chief blanket authority to run "his" business? Is this not "our" business as directed by council?
Recently, the fire apparatus that was stationed at Piccadilly Hall was removed from service. No notification was given to any resident in District 4 of this removal of the fire apparatus.
The absence of fire apparatus in our area puts everyone at risk, from residents to local businesses and farms. It may also be a deterrent in attracting fire fighters. In rural areas like ours, where homes and properties are often spread out, the time it takes for fire services from neighboring towns to respond can mean the difference between minor damage and complete devastation. The lack of immediate fire protection also impacts our insurance rates, making it more expensive for residents to insure their homes and properties.
We, the residents of Central Frontenac, urge our municipal leaders and relevant authorities to address this critical issue. Supplying our volunteers with a fire apparatus equipped with proper firefighting equipment, should be prioritized. We also encourage our fellow community members to join us in advocating for this cause by attending council meetings and voicing their support.
Ensuring the safety and security of our community is a fundamental responsibility, and we hope that through collective action and support from our residents and our elected council, we can bring about the necessary changes to protect our community.
Thank you for your attention to this important issue. We look forward to your support in raising awareness and prompting action to establish proper fire services.
