The curving hill on Bedford Road running into Sydenham has seen many accidents over the years. Thus, it is concerning that South Frontenac staff have allowed a new driveway to enter the roadway at the bottom of the curve.
This intersection (4573) was constructed so that it is not even perpendicular to the road, but enters at an acute angle, demanding that new homeowners look behind their car, up a curve, in the hopes of safely entering the roadway. It is dangerous! Recently, it was heartening to see a Percy Snider truck with a posthole digger at the top of the hill. I assumed that it was to be a caution sign, alerting drivers of an upcoming hidden intersection. Unfortunately, this was not the case. Tragically, the new black sign is part of the South Frontenac million dollar “gateway signage” expenditure (as reported on March 2, 2023 in the Frontenac News) and not for safety.
Similar ugly signs have appeared elsewhere, including right in front of a far prettier Sydenham village sign on Rutledge Rd near the Sydenham Rd intersection. Could Frontenac Council staff kindly prioritize the expenditure of taxpayer money for public safety rather than a vanity project? For shame!
