Grindrod John Grindrod died May 29, 2024, at KGH from throat cancer. He was 68.
John was born Nov. 2, 1955 in Winnipeg Manitoba to his late parents Bernice and Peter Grindrod.
He is survived by his beloved wife Tory (Holway) and daughters Elizabeth Berrey (Paul), of Edinburgh, Scotland; Emily Grindrod (Matt), of Melbourne, Australia; and Sarah Unterlander (John) of Oshawa, Ontario. He is survived by three grandchildren Charlotte and James Smith and Charlie John Lord
He is also survived by his brother Bob Grindrod (Christine Yeotes-Grindrod) and nephews Joel and James Grindrod of Oshawa, Ontario as well as several other nieces and nephews.
A long-time oil industry executive with Baker Hughes, John held a masters degree in petroleum management and lived all around the world.
But the place he called home was North Frontenac’s Lake Mississagagon, where he bought a cottage in the early 1980s. He was active in area lake associations, including doing several projects for the North Frontenac Lake Association Alliance.
He also built several homes, in Eastern Ontario and Sarasota Florida with Habitat for Humanity and helped out with the local petting zoo. In his younger days, he volunteered with people who have intellectual disabilities including ARC Industries.
He was an avid golfer, angler, cook and hiker. He also enjoyed watching football, hockey and tennis.
But perhaps he will be remembered best for his prowess on the guitar and other instruments, having played in several bands in the Belleville area during and after high school as well as numerous jam sessions in the Frontenacs over the years.
A celebration of life is tentatively planned.
The family would like to thank the staff at KGH for their compassion and dedication.
Donations to Habitat For Humanity would be appreciated.
