It is with both sorrow and gratitude that we announce the passing of our beloved Gladys Margaret Johnston Osler More (Margot) in her 93rd year at the Sharbot Lake Retirement Residence, on October 20, 2025.
A true trailblazer, Margot’s journey was one of passion and purpose. From her early days in Toronto where she gracefully balanced raising four daughters with pioneering a career in real estate during the 1970s, she instilled in them the values of resilience and independence.
Through each chapter of her life, Mum found joy and engagement in every community that she joined. Her love for connection and community led her to become an integral part of the Buffalo School of Architecture tour as an organizer, sharing her knowledge and enthusiasm with others. In Bala, as Chair of the annual Cranberry Festival, she brought creativity and excitement to local traditions. In Kingston, she poured her heart into renovating her new home, transforming it into a space showcasing her knack for creating warm spaces filled with love. Finally settling in Sharbot Lake, Margot continued to shine brightly by organizing resident events that fostered friendships and brought people together that became family – right up until her final days.
In her later years, Mum relished the serene beauty of Big Gull Lake. She embraced new friends as extended family members – each relation cherished deeply. The peaceful lake views, summer boat rides, invigorating swims, and delightful family barbecues surrounded by nature’s grandeur.
To the residents and staff at the Sharbot Lake Retirement Residence thank you for your kindness. You embraced her vibrant spirit during her time there; your compassion made a profound difference in her life.
A remarkable woman whose life reflected resilience and creativity, Mum was a trailblazer in every sense – mother, professional, and community leader. In celebrating Margot’s legacy, let us remember not just the trails she blazed but also the love she cultivated along every path – a testament to a life well-lived that continues to inspire us all.
A memorial will be arranged at a later date to honor a life lived fully. For those wishing to join us in this celebration or share their memories about Margot, please reach out to Diana Walker at [email protected].
