We’ve got lots of hunters “coming home” these days and we thank all for respecting property and fence lines while having a good time and family get togethers. Great to have the bullets stop when church is on! Stay safe, folks!! Some hunters meandered up to Harlowe for their Open Mic and poured their hearts out! It really rocked, and there's never a dull moment here in our area "north of 7".

Our Pine Meadow People are having some fall fun including a recent trip to Nine Hand Hill Farm in Stirling that included snuggling and feeding the friendly animals, and munching on yummy people food at their bake shop. Closer to home, special thanks to Gerard from "The MAZ Paddle Shop" of Cloyne for coming to share ice-cream with all of the staff and residents! Wow!

This coming Saturday Sept. 30 the Arden Legion are hosting a spaghetti supper with regular or gluten free, marinara sauce, garlic bread. Donations for dinner accepted at the door.

If you have any questions please be in touch with the Rev. Kaitlyn by phone at 613-335-2474 or by email at This email address is being protected from spambots. The Perth and District Historical Society September 28, 2023 Meeting: The Winnipeg General Strike of Spring 1919. The Perth & District Historical Society is set to resume its regular meetings on September 28, 2023. Our September meeting takes us to the Winnipeg General Strike in the spring of 1919. In 1919, the world was still reeling and changing: The Great War was only just over; service men and women were returning to adjustments as civilians and to their families in an uncertain life; the 1918 – 1920 flu pandemic was still forging its path around the world; society was changing both politically and economically; a rise was taking place separately in Canadian as well as Quebec nationalism. And then there was the underlying question raised by the events in Russia. Added to that, demands were surfacing such as an increase in equality for women, better living conditions, plus workers’ rights. Michael Dupuis is a retired Canadian history teacher who graduated from the University of Ottawa with a BA in English and a MA in history and from the University of Toronto with his BEd. Taking his interest in Canadian history, he is also an author and consultant. His credits include consultant to the CBC for Titanic: The Canadian Story. He is author of Winnipeg’s General Strike: Reports from the Front Lines; Bearing Witness: Journalists, Record Keepers and the 1917 Halifax Explosion; The Winnipeg General Strike: Ordinary Men and Women Under Extraordinary Circumstances; and a novel The Reporter and the Winnipeg General Strike. Dupuis, his wife and dogs recently moved from Victoria BC to settle in Perth. The Perth and District Historical Society is dedicated to learning about and popularizing our history and is a forum for discussion and celebration of our area’s rich culture and heritage. The meeting is open to the public (you don’t have to be a member), at 7:30 pm at the Royal Canadian Legion, Perth-Upon-Tay, Branch 244, home of the Hall of Remembrance, 26 Beckwith St. E. in Perth. The usual “Toonie Fee” (2 dollars) applies for each meeting. For information, contact Ellen Dean at 613-264-8362. Our website at www.perthhs.org has additional information about us and items of interest related to Perth and district. Article submitted by the Perth and District Historical Society

Archives Lanark enjoyed seeing everyone at Tay Valley’s 25th Anniversary, the Maberly Fair, Pie in the Sky, Ing Va in Perth, and the Harvest Festival in Beckwith. The most common question we had were from people wanting to know the history of their land. We were able so show them who the very first owners were; recipients of free land grants from the Crown. Interesting acquisitions of late … We are fortunate to have received Family Histories. Wes Darou donated both a PDF and hard copy of his book “Weird in their own Way”.  Also, we received a family tree for the John Magill/McGill and Jane McCann family.  Both of these family histories, and many more are available for viewing. Activities at Archives Lanark… In June we had the pleasure of hosting 2 genealogy workshops for individuals interested in creating their own family history book. Don’t Forget… We are open every Friday from 10am - 3pm.  We have volunteers ready to assist you with your research goals.  Feel free to let us know when you are visiting by contacting us at This email address is being protected from spambots. Mississippi

Day 74 in hospital. On Friday, September 15th, Shirley popped in for her Pearl check as she does 3 or 4 times a week, bringing candy for my candy dish or writing materials. Thanks Shirley always great to see you. Alice brought me two North Frontenac News - had a great visit. Erma Millar brought a lovely pop out flower card that does not die or need to be watered. It has beautiful colours and the nurse put it on my bulletin board so it can be seen by everyone. Thanks Erma and always great to visit with you. Friday evening Holly and Michael from Polished Spa came and I had a great visit with them. They had just come from having dinner out. They brought cookies and lovely chocolate squares. Of course I had to try them before bedtime. Yummy.

Sept. 17th - Rob and Vanessa spent the afternoon with me. The time went so fast. Great visit. They were camping at Silver Lake and were going for a chicken poutine supper after they left. Hope you enjoyed it as much as I enjoyed your visit. I sat up in my chair for 5 hours on Saturday and 6 on Sunday. On Sunday, Bev and Murray came after church and brought me the last glads of the season. This is the third beautiful bouquet. I get so many compliments on them and they sure brighten up my room. Thanks again. Bev Ladurantaye came for a visit with red salmon sandwiches, muffins and coffee. Bev and June come three or four times a week with treats even though Bev can hardly get around herself. I love your visits. Denzel came for a couple of hours. Great visit. Puts in so much time.

Monday, Holly came and did my feet and brought a lovely soft seat for my wheelchair as a birthday gift and also muffins and Elaine paid for having my feet done for my birthday. Thanks girls so much. I am so blessed. Tuesday Bev was in again with a turkey sandwich and homemade soup. Yum.

Thank you for all the visits, the food, the pampering. I shouldn't need anything for awhile. Pam came with cabbage rolls, homemade soup, baked beans and coffee from Timmies (a cold one that has 1000 calories). We sipped on them all afternoon. Cheryl Allan came about 6:30 with Tim's carrot muffin and we had a great visit and she let me talk to Olive on the phone. Get well Olive. That leg has been giving you trouble for so long. Hope it heals soon.

A million thanks to you all for all your kindness, all you kind loving people, you bring real joy and happiness to my life. A real reason to live. You are all irreplaceable. Every extra step I take I say, my friends made me do this, try harder, maybe someday I'll walk again. Thanks for all your prayers. Happy belated birthday to Shirley Mumby, 19th birthday to Ruby, Cheryl Allan and Happy 49th Anniversary to Pam and Richard. Here’s to many more.

Sadly, another little country church is closing. The final service at the Free Methodist Church in Mississippi will be conducted by Rev. Jack Bradley on Sunday, October 1st at 2pm. The service will be dedicated to the memory of Edith Olmstead, a longtime resident and church member who passed away in March 2020 at the age of 97. Special music will be supplied by the Abrams, the Bartons and Ron Lemke. Following the service there will be a pot luck supper at the Snow Road Community Centre.

Snow Road Community Centre News: The next social dinner on October 14th will be our annual Octoberfest celebration. Check the website or Facebook age for more details or sign up for e-mail notices.

Fall has officially arrived just as the geese are leaving, the hummingbirds are gone, the leaves are turning and harvest is underway. The last week or so has certainly not felt like fall but it soon will.

Patty and John blew out their candles at the September Birthday Bash. There was a lovely assortment of main dishes, salads and cream puffs for dessert (thanks Patty).  Marily gave out some FireSmart pamphlets about how to assess the risk to your homes from wild fire damage.  The fire at Centennial Lake this summer was way too close which makes one want to prepare for possible future wildfires.  Extra pamphlets are in the foyer of the hall.
