Mississippi
by Pearl Killingbeck

Sunday, 29th Oct: No company today so caught up on notes to myself of things I need to write down to remember. I decided to write a poem about my favourite hair dresser I’ve had for 23 years. She has a big red tote bag she has pulled the last few years when she goes to nursing homes to fix their messy hair. Everyone knows when your hair looks good you feel the way you should. When I hear that red tote coming down the hospital hall, I know that in a little while I’ll look the way I should. Thank you, Donna, for all the years of making me look good. I know that in 2 more weeks my hair will pass the test. And that Donna and her big red tote have come to make me look my best. Thanks, Donna, for all the years for opening up the best little hair house in Mississippi. Cheers. It was a good day. No one in so I had coffee with my roommate at 3 o’clock. Her husband got us one. I didn’t feel well again today. My infection is not getting better. I am tired and had to get pain pills. Feel like just lying in bed and resting even though I didn’t get up until 10 o’clock this morning for breakfast.

30th Oct: Elaine came with homemade muffins. They are the biggest and moistest best muffins you have ever ate. Anyone who has one knows that.

Happy Birthday to Linda Russell on Nov 5th. We are so happy Linda is moving back to this area. Shirley Mumby arrived home from a 10-day vacation in Florida with her girlfriends. She looked lovely, rested and tanned. She got home Sunday and came to see me. Great visit and of course, lovely chocolate mints. Thanks for the candy and visit, Shirley. Happy belated birthday to Yvonne. Sorry I’m late with it.

Michael and Holly – sorry to hear about Birdie’s health. I know that she is the best of hands she could be in. I know she is loved to death and love can move mountains.

There is a baptism on Sunday, Nov 5th in Elphin church for Isabel Marie Wheeler, daughter of Mike and Nicole of Snow Road. Rev Bob Hill also baptized Mike and married Mike.

First snow fall was Oct 30th.

Get well wishes to Pete Clement who is recovering from an accident a while back. Sorry I am late getting this in. Our thoughts and prayers are with you, Pete, and we wish you a speedy recovery.

Halloween, 31st Oct: Quiet day – just wrote letters and notes, straightened some shelves. At 7:30 a beautiful butterfly flew into my room. She was just gorgeous. Her name was Carol. The outfit was beautiful. I also saw a punk rocker with pink hair and tattoos. She was also gorgeous. And an orange like Mickey Mouse character. I’m sure there was more but that’s all I saw. It was great to see the nurses get dressed up and enjoy their evening to get rid of the stress for awhile. I enjoyed every one of you. Hope all you Halloweeners had a great evening.

1st Nov: Another quiet day – no one in. Did not feel well with my arm so painful. Have to get needles in it to take the pain away and my UTI is also painful. Don’t know what is going on here.

2nd Nov: Quiet day again but lots of pain so more needles. Had to go to bed at 3 in the afternoon as I felt so tired and exhausted. I am usually up for 6 to 9 hours but today it was only 3 hours.

3rd Nov: Arm is painful again so asked for pain needle. Trying to do my Mississippi News and my arm doesn’t want to work that good. Bev Ladurantaye popped in with coffee and explosion muffin. She’s still hurting real bad with her back. She goes to Kingston on Nov 13th for an x-ray and maybe more fluid out of her brain. Good luck with all your tests, Bev.

I used to think that friends were people that laugh with you and talk to you now and then but I know they are much more than that – they are people who touch your heart, the people that share your secrets with you, they cry with you and laugh with you and who don’t judge you or make you change. They accept you as you are. You never know how that smile, that hug, that touch made you feel so much better. Thank you every one for being so special.

Snow Road Snowmobile Club will be holding their annual craft event on Saturday, December 9th.

On Remembrance Day, as we should every day, we remember those who volunteered, sacrificed, served, fought, and died, for our freedom. We thank you, and we salute you as we salute those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. We will never forget. We will remember you.

Last Friday night, upstairs at the legion, a new event started.  Drop in darts, $3 for legion members, $5 for non, all levels welcome.  Every Friday from 7-9pm. Grab some darts (or borrow some) and join in the fun.  There are 7 dart boards upstairs, singles or doubles depending on attendance.  It was a ton of fun last week. I played and had a great time. If darts aren’t your thing, downstairs there is music with Dave - always a fun time. Come out and see what our local Legion has to offer.  Good times, good friends and make some memories. Also, a Grey Cup watching party will be held downstairs and doors open at 5, game starts at 6pm. Join for some fun and chill.

Santa is returning to Sydenham!!!  Let’s break some records, the most floats ever, get creative and let’s get in some Christmas spirit. The Sydenham Santa Claus parade will take place November 25th, at 11am.  The parade begins and ends at the Sydenham fire hall on Stage Coach Rd.  There is no formal registration process; however, we will have a surprise this year for all those who choose to enter a float.  If you are taking part in the parade, please be at the Sydenham fire hall by 10:30am.  We are also thrilled to announce that the incredible band from Sydenham high school will once again be putting on a concert at the fire hall at the completion of the parade.  The annual flyer and the parade route will be released very shortly.    For any other information, don't hesitate to private message us on Facebook or e-mail us at This email address is being protected from spambots.
