Mississippi
by Pearl Killingbeck

After Alice left last Friday, Rick came in with a big bag of homemade food – hamburger, coffee, chili, crescents, and muffin.  Thanks Barb and Rick.  I will enjoy every crumb.  I am still getting more needles for pain.  It is osteoarthritis  - bone on bone – and nothing takes the pain away.  X-ray shows nothing but the osteoarthritis.  I had my flu shot today.

On Saturday afternoon, Emily Desjardine came in for a wonderful visit but I had a quiet evening and went to bed at 7pm and watched TV. I gathered up all the dirty plastic dishes for Sharon to take home to wash.  I watched the beautiful Remembrance Day service from my bathroom window.  It was wonderful to see and I also heard some of the music – Last Post – God Save the King.  There was a really good crowd on hand.  I am on 3rd floor so have a good view of the poppies decorating the hospital.  It was beautiful.  Thanks to all the people for all the beautiful decorations of the hospital.  That was a lot of work.

On Sunday, Shauna, Amber and GG Jamie and Hudson came for a visit and we spent a lovely 2 hours chatting.  I never see my great grandchildren enough.  We have a great visit and some lovely fresh donuts and coffee.

So sorry to hear that my last roommate Heather passed away only 6 days after she left here.  Her husband came up to tell me.  R.I.P. Heather.

On Monday 13th November, my roommate Barb Agnew’s daughter Donna and son-in-law made us a tuna casserole for lunch.  It was so good.  It had flavor.  Thank you Donna and Yves.

My arm is still so sore.  The doctor doubled my pain pills.  I get them twice a day now.

On Tuesday, 14th November, I had an appointment in Kingston to make sure my femur bone is healing.  I had to leave at 1:30 and my brother Ken and Annie came for a visit all the way from Lake St. Peter at 1pm..  It was a short visit but I was very, very happy to see them both.  I wish it could have been longer but happy to have that half-hour with them.  I got back from Kingston at 6pm.  It was a long day but I got out for a nice drive.  It is the first day I have had clothes on in a month (felt strange).  My bone is starting to heal but it will be months yet.  I have to go back to Kingston in another month.

Donna and Her Big Red Tote:  Donna has a big red tote. She has pulled the last few years.  For when she goes to the nursing to fix their messy hair.  Everyone know when your hair looks good, you feel the way you should.  When I hear that big red tote coming down the hospital hall, I know that in a little while I’ll look the way I should.  Thank you Donna for all the years of making me look good.  I know that in two more weeks my hair will pass the test, and that Donna and her big red tote have come to make me look my best.  Thanks Donna for all the years for opening up the best little hair house in Mississippi (Cheers).

November 16th was a quiet day with my roommate and myself.  I am almost finished reading my book by Prince Harry (Spare).

As of Sunday, November 19th, I have been in hospital for 137 days.  I miss my good friends Olive and Harriet and so many other friends – you know who you are.  I am pleased to hear that the Community Centre coffee morning on December 9th will be in honour of Harriet’s 90th birthday.

Snow Road Snowmobile Club:  Thank you to everyone for supporting our breakfasts and the roast beef dinner.  One last breakfast in 2023 on December 2nd and then they re-start on January 6th, 2024.  The Christmas craft event is on Saturday, December 9th from 10am to 2pm.

Community Centre:  November Music Night – November 30th – features the band Turpin’s Trail.  Always a great show!  Check the website or facebook page for more details on the regular, ongoing activities.
