The fifth annual Christmas Toy and Food Drive is being held Saturday, November 30th at the Northbrook Foodland between the hours of 10am and 2pm. We are accepting donations of new toys, gift cards, non-perishable food items, and cash. All donations go directly to the Land O’ Lakes Community Services Christmas Hamper Program. It is also supported by the Kaladar/Barrie Fire Department. Without donations, the program costs over $20,000 and services over 140 local families in need.

All are invited to St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Flinton as we hold our 2nd Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony on Sunday, December 1st from 4:30pm to 6:30pm. Join us as we celebrate the Spirit of Christmas! Hot chocolate, cookies, music and fireworks! An event for the whole community to enjoy! Hope to see you there! ALL ARE WELCOME **Tree & nativity lighting at dusk followed by a few fireworks** **Hot chocolate & cookies while quantities last ** *We will be also accepting non-perishable food items for our local Food Bank*

We heard back from Santa and he will be joining Jack for our 3rd Annual Christmas Party for the kids in our community & their parents. Ho Ho Ho… the Jolly Fellow in Red will be coming to the Lion’s Hall in Northbrook at least two times in the next few weeks. Santa will of course be in his night time parade on Saturday, November 23rd. The parade starts at 5:30 with hot chocolate and hotdogs and a visit with Santa afterwards. Then there will be fireworks at 7pm. The children can do their shopping at the Holly Shoppe from 4-7. Santa returns on December 14th when children can visit and experience his Workshop with some of his elves helping out. It starts at 10 until 2. More fun at the Lions Hall on November 30th when you can come and purchase locally made gifts from 10-2 at the Christmas Extravaganza. Catch the Ace’s jackpot is estimated at $2500.00!

Myers Cave Resort is inviting the community to its 4th Annual Christmas Tree Lighting. Of course, no tree-lighting can happen without delicious hot chocolate and a warm fire pit, roasted marshmallows and giveaways for the kids. Santa is excited to see the families and the children and to hear what they want for Christmas and to take a picture with them too. And the band that everyone loved during the Oktoberfest, Good To Go Band, will be there to sing our favorite Christmas Carols. Date: Nov 30. Time: 5:30-8pm.

The Denbigh Recreation Committee, during the Festival of Lights on December 14 at Heritage Park, will be lighting a Memorial Tree in memory of loved ones who are no longer with us.  You can purchase a bulb for $2.00 in memory of a family member or friend, at Glaeser’s Country Store or Rosie’s Café and General Store in Denbigh.  Deadline is December 1, 2024.  The Festival of Lights is from 5 to 7pm.  There will be food and fireworks that evening.  If you would like to enter a float call Kenny 613-985-9718.  Santa Claus may be there too.

The Matawatchan Hall at 1677 Frontenac Road will be hosting a Christmas Market on Saturday, Nov. 30 from 10am until 1pm.  There will be light Lunch, Coffee, Homemade Crafts, local Maple Syrup, and lots of yummy Christmas treats.  Come out and support your community.  If you are interested in a table please contact Nancy at 613-333-9556.

The Denbigh Library will be celebrating the Christmas Season with Kids Christmas Crafts on some upcoming Saturdays from 9am until noon.  On Saturday, November 30 there will be a Christmas Cards Craft. On Saturday, December 7 a Christmas Tree Ornaments Craft and on Saturday, December 14 a Christmas Centerpiece craft.  Families are welcome.   No preregistration is required.

The Denbigh Griffith Lions Club is hosting a Christmas Market on Saturday, December 7 from 10am until 2pm at Griffith.  There will be gifts, goodies, photo op with Santa, hot lunch and mulled wine to enjoy.  The Lions Club also will be selling Tourtieres for $20, and Fruit Cake and Cherry Cake for $20.  Their Christmas BINGO will be Tuesday, December 10; they look forward to seeing everyone, and the doors open at 6pm.  The Lions Club will be offering Christmas Hampers to members of the community in need. The Vennachar Free Methodist Church is hosting an Open Mic music night on Friday, November 22 at 7pm.  Bring an instrument and a friend and enjoy the fellowship.  On Sunday, November 24 at 1pm, there is a Kids Archery event free to all students Grade 4 and up.  On Monday, December 2 at 1pm, the ladies are making Christmas Crafts; call Debbie 613-479-8057 for free registration.

The local Village Voices Choir will be hosting a Christmas Concert under the direction of Debra Green and a Children’s Christmas Pageant of the Hilltop Sunday School.  This event is on Sunday, December 8 at 2:30pm at the Hilltop Church in Griffith (Snow date Dec 15).  Admission is a donation to the Denbigh Community Food Bank.  Fellowship and snacks to follow.  Call Debra for more information 416-389-9841

Congratulations to the South Frontenac Fire & Rescue Station 1 on their new boat! The Marine Unit MU311 is equipped to handle emergencies and fires when marine response is required. This new boat enhances its response capabilities in the southern area of the Township. The boat has also helped the Bobs and Crow Lake Association and Ministry of Natural Resources by placing between 8,000 and 10,000 fingerling Walleyes into Bobs Lake this fall. This year Marine Units have responded to 11 emergencies in south Frontenac and one response to assist a neighbouring municipality.

The KHS is seeking barn homes for certain cats through their Barn Buddies program. This initiative is aimed at finding rural homes for cats that are not suited for indoor living. Cats will be spayed/neutered, up to date on rabies and core vaccines, de-wormed, and flea-treated. Prospective homes must provide food, water, and shelter at all times. Owners will be responsible for any veterinary care requirements after adoption.

Deepest sympathy to the family of the late Dennis Scott, born in Bordenwood and a brother to Rev. Vernon Scott, who co-led the grave side service. It was great to see all the Scotts and to welcome Tim and Penny Cota to our hall as the funeral catering team.

Area churches are preparing for Christmas and on Sun. Dec. 1 St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Flinton hosts their 2nd Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony from 4:30- 6:30pm and all are welcome. It features hot chocolate, cookies, music, fireworks, tree and nativity lighting at dusk, followed by fireworks; hot chocolate and cookies while quantities last, and of course receiving non-perishable food items for the food bank. Also starting Dec. 1, Henderson United will set up their lit up outdoor nativity scene at the church so please check it out while driving by. Please set aside Christmas Eve- Tues Dec. 24 at 7pm for our Henderson United candle lit service led by our own people.

Our peanut butter for the Township’s area wide Christmas food bank peanut butter challenge can still be left at the Arden post office even though there’s a postal strike. So far we have 43 jars of peanut butter donated and since we desperately want to win please get your jars in by Dec. 16. Let’s think of others when shopping.

We are in need of donations of loaves of sandwiches (egg, ham, cheese, ….) a variety of nut free cookies and squares, and some helpers to help in setting up and looking after the refreshment area during the Children’s party, and also later in the evening when the Santa Claus Parade participants arrive to warm up and enjoy some refreshments after the parade at around 7pm. North Frontenac Santa Claus Parade: Nov. 30th at 6pm. The parade starts at the North Frontenac Township Office at 6pm and makes its way East along the 506/509 and ending at the Ompah Community Centre.

The Community fridge in the foyer often holds veggies or canned goods etc. Everyone is welcome to take whatever is useful to you, or to drop something off. 

Please join us on Wednesday mornings for coffee and treats starting at 10am. It’s a great way to meet your Ompah neighbours and friends. While you are there drop by the library which is open on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 10am to noon. (Note: There are no coffees on the first Wednesday of the Month, when the Community Café is held). The Ompah Community Centre also offers weekly activities such as exercise groups, and Bridge games, drop by the community centre to find out more.

The Parham United Church congregation collected items for their annual operation Christmas Child Campaign.  Shoe Boxes were packed with art supplies, tooth brushes, games, socks, mittens and other small objects and were blessed on Sunday and will be shipped out to children living in war zones, disaster areas and poverty in 110 countries.

Festival of Trees at the OSO Hall in Sharbot Lake "Everything Ice" is the theme on Friday, Dec 6 from 1 to 8pm and Saturday, Dec 7 from 10 to 4pm.  Thursday, Dec. 5 will be the Opening Gala and Awards presentation from 6 to 8 pm.  (ticketes required for Thursday only) and can be purchase at the Cardinal Cafe or the Pharmacy.

Thank you to the Township that hosted and all the participants that helped make the Remembrance Day Service last Friday so special! The Clarendon Students made it even more special with their readings and poems and I the Clar-Mill Community Volunteers provided snacks and refreshments in the hall afterwards.

The Clar-Mill Community Volunteer Wreath making night last Thursday was amazing! The scent of the pine and spruce boughs for decorating really got me excited for Christmas!  It was so much fun and every gal left with a Beautiful Wreath or Christmas Pot to enjoyI thought I heard mention of maybe doing this again next year, that would be Awesome!! 

11 people came out to enjoy Euchre last Tuesday night in Plevna. Congratulations to Carolyn W., who won the high score prize with 71 and Sandy T. who won the most lone hands prize with 5. Everyone is welcome to the Plevna Clar-Mill Hall (6598 Buckshot Lake Road) on Tuesday nights at 6:50pm (games start at 7).  

Do you need internet access on the go? Kingston Frontenac Public Library offers portable Wi-Fi Hotspots. All you need is a library card! Come on in to the Plevna Branch on Tues and Thurs from 2-6pm or Fri and Sat from 10-1pm for more information or visit www.kfpl.ca.

Mark your calendars to register for the Kingston Frontenac Public Library 12 days of Christmas or 8 days of Hanukkah Book Bundles. Each book is wrapped for a Super Fun daily or nightly surprise! Registration opens this Sat Nov 16h at 9am. Don't hesitate because there are a limited number of spots and they usually fill up in the first hour. The North Frontenac Santa Claus Parade and Children's Christmas Party is coming up on Sat Nov 30th! Children will be visiting with Santa at the Ompah Community Centre at 1pm There will be refreshments, face painting, crafts, presents and pictures with the Big Guy! Children up to grade 8 are invited to pre-register for a gift. Registration forms are available at local stores and the Plevna Library or by contacting Michelle at 613 318-4039. Everyone is invited to participate in the parade with a float and if you would like to join in the fun, please contact Dillon at 613 650-7746 for more info. The Parade will be starting at 6pm at the North Frontenac Township Office and making its way East on the 506/509 highway ending at the Ompah Community Centre. 

At 1311 Struthadam Road off River Road in Ompah, you can visit Riverhill Farm's wonderfully festive Christmas lights on Sat Nov 30th!! Until Mon Dec 30th we are invited from 5-9pm to drive through and enjoy over 150,000 twinkling lights that they work so hard to put together for us! On Fri, Sat and Sun nights from 5-8pm, they will also be selling mini donuts, refreshments and wagon rides. You will also be able to shop from local craft vendors and artisans for Christmas presents on the weekends too!

The farm has organized two fireworks shows this year to try and control the traffic a little better; Sat Dec 7th and 14th at 7pm are the dates. You are invited to bring lawn chairs to enjoy the show and please remember to dress for the weather. Santa will be also visiting on the firework nights, so make sure and have your lists ready kids!

Hey South Frontenac residents… Our second year of peanut butter challenge is underway. Last year we helped the Food Bank until mid summer, and donated over 600 lbs of peanut butter and 100 lbs of jam/jelly. Harrowsmith topped out as the nuttiest community with the most collected. Who shall be crowned nuttier this year? Follow along on social media (Facebook) for updates and donation drop off spots near you. Challenge your friends this holiday season and help out our community.

Saturday, December 14th … be a bird watcher.. The Frontenac Bird Count is celebrating their 10th anniversary. Sign up to count birds at your own feeder, or be a part of a survey team, bring your kids to the Christmas Bird Count for kids event at the Sydenham Legion hall (upstairs hall) Kids and families will learn how to identify common winter birds, enjoy interactive activities suitable for all ages and then head outside for a 30 minute guided walk on gentle terrain to look for birds to doubt. Style Revival Clothing Center will be open Saturday, November 23, from 10 am to 1 pm. Style Revival provides gently used clothing, free of charge. They are also open every Wednesday. Location at the Verona Free Methodist Church.

The Frontenac Women's Chorus is proud to present their Christmas concert, "Dreaming of Home"- a magical night of song to warm your Christmas season!  7pm on Saturday, November 30th, at the Verona Free Methodist Church, 6804 Road 38. Special guest is oboist Anke Carrington. Admission is by donation plus an item for the food bank.
