The fifth annual Christmas Toy and Food Drive is being held Saturday, November 30th at the Northbrook Foodland between the hours of 10am and 2pm. We are accepting donations of new toys, gift cards, non-perishable food items, and cash. All donations go directly to the Land O’ Lakes Community Services Christmas Hamper Program. It is also supported by the Kaladar/Barrie Fire Department. Without donations, the program costs over $20,000 and services over 140 local families in need.
All are invited to St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Flinton as we hold Our 2nd Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony on Sunday, December 1st from 4:30pm to 6:30pm. Only a few weeks until Christmas. Come out to the Lions Christmas Extravaganza on Saturday November 30th 10-2. There will be lots of local vendors selling their products so come and support by buying your gifts. Santa returns on December 14th when children can visit and experience his Workshop with some of his elves helping out. It starts at 10 until 2 Cat the Ace is onto the 4th week. Myers Cave Resort is inviting the community to its 4th Annual Christmas Tree Lighting. Every year the area that is decorated for Christmas is becoming bigger and more exciting, and we can't wait to have everyone see it. Of course, no tree-lighting can happen without delicious hot chocolate and a warm fire pit, roasted marshmallows and giveaways for the kids. Santa is excited to see the families and the children and to hear what they want for Christmas and to take a picture with them too. And the band that everyone loved during the Oktoberfest, Good To Go Band, will be there to sing our favorite Christmas Carols. What better way to spend an evening in Christmas Cheer? The Denbigh Recreation Committee, during the Festival of Lights on December 14 at Heritage Park will be lighting a Memorial Tree in memory of loved ones who are no longer with us. You can purchase a bulb for $2.00 in memory of a family member or friend, at Glaeser’s Country Store or Rosie’s Café and General Store in Denbigh. Deadline is December 1, 2024. The Festival of Lights is from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. There will be food and Fireworks that evening. If you would like to enter a float or display call Kenny 613-985-9718. Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus will be watching for all the children.
The Matawatchan Hall at 1677 Frontenac Road will be hosting a Christmas Market on Saturday Nov. 30 from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. There will be light Lunch, Coffee, Homemade Crafts, local Maple Syrup, and lots of yummy Christmas treats. The Denbigh Library will be celebrating the Christmas Season with Kids Christmas Crafts on some upcoming Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. until noon. On Saturday November 30 there will be a Christmas Cards Craft, on Saturday December 7 a Christmas Tree Ornaments Craft and on Saturday December 14 a Christmas Centerpiece craft. Families are welcome. The Denbigh Griffith Lions Club is hosting a Christmas Market on Saturday December 7 from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Griffith. There will be gifts, goodies, photo op with Santa, hot lunch and mulled wine to enjoy. The Lions Club also will be selling Tourtieres for $20, and Fruit Cake and Cherry Cake for $20. The local Village Voices Choir will be hosting a Christmas Concert under the direction of Debra Green and a Children’s Christmas Pageant of the Hilltop Sunday School. Our Central Frontenac Township Christmas peanut butter food bank challenge continues until Dec. 16 and our district of Kennebec is in the lead having donated an astounding 67 jars of peanut butter.!!We are the nuttiest township- a true and distinct honour!! Olden District got a late start, while Oso has donated 12 jars, and Hinchinbrooke 16. Special thanks to Councillor Nicki Gowdy for setting up this initiative, collecting and counting the contributions and keeping us all in the loop. Now Kennebec- we want to donate over 100 jars of peanut butter- so please get them to Arden post office- which in spite of the strike is still open.
Special retirement wishes to Terry Asselstine the Facilities Coordinator of our Township who served the Township and was in charge of all the Township hall’s maintenance. Terry got our Henderson Hall a super duper flusher toilet, painted our hall, and came to our rescue as he did for all the Township Halls. We wish him happy retirement and great success at hunting and fishing.
This Saturday November 30th features a tree lighting ceremony at the Arden Mill Pond at 7:00 PM with thanks to The Friends of Arden, many volunteers and the fire department for helping to make it happen. FREE hot chocolate from Circle Square Ranch and free yummy cookies donated by area folks, along with fun and singing promises a great event.
Then, coming up on Sat. Dec. 7 Arden United Church offers their Annual Christmas Luncheon at 1076 Railway St., Arden from 11:30am – 1pm. Tasty sandwiches, succulent soups, garnishes will be yummy in the tummy. Come and have a chin wag with your friends and get caught up on the news. If you are able, free-will donations graciously received.
I hope the mail strike ends soon, although it’s wonderful to visit with all the local stores/business folks when searching for our paper copies of “the News.”

The Tay Valley Community Choir, under the direction of Rebecca Worden and accompanied by Mary Lou Carroll, have been practicing hard to prepare it's 20th annual Christmas Concert. Lanark County Genealogical Society Presents…“The Rural Diary Archive”, with guest speaker Catharine Wilson. Saturday, December 7, 1:30 pm. Beckwith Municipal Office, 2022 Beckwith Park Lane, Carleton Place. The Rural Diary Archive website brings together the work of 250 diarists from the year 1790 to 1960 from across Ontario. This presentation explores several Eastern Ontario diaries in the collection, including some from Lanark County. It examines the nature of diary writing, and the ways you can use diaries for your own research. Catharine is the Director of the Rural Diary Archive website, and Founder of the Rural Diary Archive. She grew up in Grenville County where her Loyalist, and Irish ancestors settled, and taught rural history at the University of Guelph after first being inspired by her parents who built a log cabin in their basement for Canada’s Centennial in 1967. This is an in-person event, and no registration is required. Admission is FREE and you don’t have to be a member to attend. This event is open to the public.

At the November Birthday Bash/Potluck we celebrated the birthdays of Stan, Linda and Leane. Our next Birthday Bash/Christmas Potluck is on Dec.18th. We hope you will join us, as we sing Christmas Carols, and enjoy music from the Ompah Choir.
Children’s Christmas Party, Nov. 30th at 1pm at the Ompah Community Centre. We are in need of donations of loaves of sandwiches (egg, ham, cheese, ….) a variety of nut free cookies and squares, and some helpers to help in setting up and looking after the refreshment area during the Children’s party, and also later in the evening when the Santa Claus Parade participants arrive to warm up and enjoy some refreshments after the parade at around 7pm. North Frontenac Santa Claus Parade: Nov. 30th at 6pm. The parade starts at the North Frontenac Township Office at 6pm and makes its way East along the 506/509 and ending at the Ompah Community Centre.

Big thank you to all those who came, supported and enjoyed the Parham United Church's Turkey Supper on Saturday. First timers from Inverary, Tamworth, Verona, Westport and Flinton as well as the regular folks from one area had nothing but praise such a delicious meal. Thanks to all who helped in any way it was greatly appreciated.
The church congregation enjoyed soup luncheon with the leftovers from this supper after their service on Sunday. There are still just a few cookbooks still available.
The Parham Happy Travellers met last Wednesday for their last meeting of the year. Election of Officers took place at this meeting. Donations to the Food Bank Free Methodist Church Fire Department and the Rec Committee (District #4) were allotted out. They are planning on Dec. 18at the Free Methodist Church at 11 and going to the Mandarin in Kingston and would welcome you if you'd care to join us for a luncheon around 12:30. If you are looking for a Frontenac Newspaper in Plevna during this postal strike, they will be available in a red tote outside the front door at the Clar-Mill Community Hall, at the Plevna Library Branch on Tues and Thurs 2-6pm and Fri and Sat 10-1pm. You can also get them at the North of 7 Restaurant and Grocery and the Township office.
13 people came out to enjoy Euchre last Tuesday night in Plevna. Congratulations to Paul R., who won the high score prize with 89 and Colleen R. won the most lone hands prize with 5, but lucky for me she passed on the prize and I came in second with 4 lone hands and went home with a nice new warm and cool mist humidifier donated by the Overton Garage Sale couple! Everyone is welcome to the Plevna Clar-Mill Hall (6598 Buckshot Lake Road) on Tuesday nights at 6:50pm (games start at 7). We play 10 games of Euchre and then have some refreshments and visit while the prizes are awarded. You could win something for high score, most lone hands or a consolation prize for low score. The North Frontenac Santa Claus Parade and Children's Christmas Party is coming up on Sat Nov 30th! The Parade will be starting at 6pm at the North Frontenac Township Office and making its way East on the 506/509 highway ending at the Ompah Community Centre.
At 1311 Struthadam Road off River Road in Ompah, you can visit Riverhill Farm's wonderfully festive Christmas lights on Sat Nov 30th!! Until Mon Dec 30th we are invited from 5-9pm to drive through and enjoy over 150,000 twinkling lights that they work so hard to put together for us! On Fri, Sat and Sun nights from 5-8pm, they will also be selling mini donuts, refreshments and wagon rides. You will also be able to shop from local craft vendors and artisans for Christmas presents on the weekends too!
The farm has organized two fireworks shows this year to try and control the traffic a little better; Sat Dec 7th and 14th at 7pm are the dates. You are invited to bring lawn chairs to enjoy the show and please remember to dress for the weather. Santa will be also visiting on the firework nights, so make sure and have your lists ready kids!
The Clar-Mill Community Volunteers invite everybody to a FREE Christmas Turkey Dinner on Mon Dec 9th from 5-7pm at the Clar-Mill Hall (6598 Buckshot Lake Road) . A full dinner with refreshments and desserts will be served. Donations are welcomed.

We’re just one week away from The Festival of Trees!!
The annual “Festival of Trees” begins Thursday, Dec 5 to Saturday, Dec 7 at OSO Hall.
This year the event will Kick off with a special GALA (At OSO Hall) on the evening of Thursday, Dec 5. (Admission for Thursday is by advanced ticket purchase only –tickets available at the Sharbot Lake Pharmacy and OSO Hall). Friday and Saturday, the event will continue with doors open 1-8 and 10-4 (respectively). The perfect way to kick off ”The Season” and to get into the Holiday spirit.

Sydenham & District Lions Club in collaboration with South Frontenac Township, invite you to join us on Friday Nov 29th 2024 for our Annual Community Tree Lighting Event, held at the South Frontenac Township hall ~ parking lot in Sydenham Village 4432 George St, 6:00 pm – 7:00pm. As this is an Outdoor event, ~ remember to dress warm!
Enjoy the festive Tree all lit up, while listening to Christmas music by Special guests from St.Pauls Anglican Church, but , do bring your singing voices to join in the fun! Not to forget to mention of course, delicious Hot Coco sponsored by Sydenham & District Lions Club, and prepared by our friends here at Lenny’s Deli!
He's making his list, checking it twice! The Sydenham Santa Parade will take place Saturday, November 30. The entries will leave from the Sydenham Fire Hall at 11 am and will return to the Fire Hall at approximately 12 pm. The community is welcome to stay at the Fire Hall afterwards for hot beverages, face painting and visits with Santa.

Sydenham!! The peanut butter challenge is on... last year our awesome Harrowsmith neighbours proved to be nuttier than us and collected more peanut butter. Let's show them. Get your donation in today. Sydenham One Stop has a drop box, Home Hardware, Thrift Addicts, and K9 Solutions across from Lenny's Deli. Let's get nutty.. our foodbank needs peanut butter. So this year let's go nuts. Donate your peanut butter, jam, nut free spreads. Last year we were able to help them provide peanut butter until mid summer.
Looking to ring in the New Year? Southern Ale will be performing at the Sydenham Legion. Tickets are $25 per person and available at the One Stop and downstairs at the bar. Tickets are limited so don't delay. We're going to ring in the new year in style. Party favour's will be provided, a light buffet, and champagne toast at midnight.

Style Revival Clothing Center will be open Saturdays, December 7 and 21, from 10 am to 1 pm. Style Revival provides gently used clothing, free of charge. They are also open every Wednesday. Location at the Verona Free Methodist Church.
TRINITY CHRISTMAS CONCERT: The annual Christmas concert will be held on Friday December 13th at 7:30 pm. Special guests are the Frontenac Youth Choir. Trinity United Church
Community Breakfast will be held December 14 from 8:30 to 11 am. at the Verona Lions Center. Cost by donation. All proceeds go to the Sydenham high school track and field team.
Frontenac Christmas Bird Count: Saturday, December 14 Everyone can celebrate birds and contribute to citizen science as the Frontenac Christmas Bird Count celebrates its tenth anniversary. Sign up to count birds at your own feeder or be a part of a survey team throughout the day, or bring your kids to the Christmas Bird Count for Kids event from 1-3 pm at the Sydenham Legion Hall, 4376 William Street. Kids and families will learn how to identify common winter birds, enjoy interactive activities suitable for all ages, and then head outside for a short 30-minute guided walk on gentle terrain to look for birds to count. Warm up after with hot chocolate and share stories and fun facts about birds. Dress warmly and bring binoculars if you have them.
