Battersea/Storrington

What side of a groundhog has the most fur? The outside!
As I write this Monday morning, the long-range forecast for Sunday, February 2nd is a cloudy with a chance of snow. So what does that mean for the groundhog?? Keep your fingers crossed for no shadow and an early spring!
Looking a bit ahead, mark Saturday February 15th on your calendar for Hockey Day in Battersea! For 15 years now, Kyle at The Creek has been bringing the community together for a day of the great Canadian sport! With 8 teams this year and over 70 players, he can not accept any more entries, but it is looking like another stellar event! All funds raised this year will be going to Storrington Public School. Thank you Kyle!
The highs and absolute lows of Battersea...
Hats off the Mike Young for maintaining the skating rink on Battersea Creek! Great job Mike. Thank you so much!
Kudos to the folks who took the time and effort to build us the cutest snowman ball team you have ever seen! In Battersea ball diamond, we had a pitcher, catcher, batter, all the bases were covered, it was just absolutely amazing. I was going to ask for suggestions this week as to what we could name our winter team! The Battersea Snow Balls? The Winter Wonderlands? They certainly made me smile coming thru the village! To whoever did that, THANK YOU!
And now, to whoever went into the park last Thursday night, and knocked EVERY snowman over, SHAME ON YOU! Do you feel good about destroying someone else's work? Are you proud of what you did? Is this the same group of teenagers who have vandalized the beach and vandalized the train tracks this past summer? Are parents aware of what their kids are doing? It's too bad they couldn't be made to repair the mess they made. Again, just shame, shame, shame on you.

Frontenac Paramedics, the Kingston Central Ambulance Communications Centre, and Kingston Health Sciences Centre will implement a new system for 9-1-1 calls on Wednesday, February 5.
People who call 9-1-1 in the event of a medical emergency should expect to answer new, more-detailed questions about each patient’s condition and location. Those who call for non-life threatening matters should expect longer wait times for service depending on patient condition and the nature of the emergency. 9-1-1 callers for less-urgent cases will be supported through regular contact with ambulance communications officers to monitor patient condition in case of change.
The new system, called the Medical Priority Dispatch System (MPDS), is in use in more than 35,000 ambulance communications centres in at least 46 countries. It is in place in Toronto, Ottawa, Peel, Halton, York, Niagara, Thunder Bay, Kenora, and more. It will soon be standard in every ambulance communications centre in Ontario.
MPDS gets paramedics to the most critical patients as immediately as possible, matches paramedics with specialized skills and equipment to each case, and reduces non-urgent demand pressure on the emergency department. It is an evidence-based system that includes built-in testing, development, and quality assurance measures to ensure patients continue to receive the highest standard of care.

Mother Nature sure has been sending us some cold wintery weather. Stay warm!
Just a reminder of the Coffee Time at the Free Methodist Church in Parham is still going on. It is held every Tuesday morning from 10 to 11:30. A great way to help with those "winter blues" by chatting and enjoying a cup of coffee and seeing our friends or neighbours or meeting a new friend. Hope to see you there.
We have lost a very important branch on our family tree with the passing of Eileen Whan. She was a resident at the Seniors Retirement Home in Sharbot Lake. Eileen passed away 5 days short of her 99th birthday. Some older folks might remember her and her husband running the Wagarville General Store. She loved to knit, crochet or cross stitch and entered these items in the Parham and Maberly Fairs as well as some of the yard sales and flea markets. She lovedd to travel and go RVing. She was an amazing cook and her butter tarts were a favorite at the hunting camp! She will be missed by all who knew her.
Thank you to everyone for coming out on Saturday to the 4 on 4 hockey tournament at the Tichborne Rink in support of Central Frontenac Minor Softball. Thank you to the winning team Dan Hayes for donating their winnings back to the Association. We appreciate your continued support.

Love euchre?? SFSC will be hosting 2 tournaments back to back on Jan. 25th/25 and Feb. 15th/25. This will be held at Legion 496 in Sydenham ON. The funds raised from this will help the team represent Team Canada with the Canadian Ice Stock Federation head to Kapfenberg Austria for the World Ice Stock Championships. The cost will be $20 per player which includes tasty light snacks and plenty of food donated on behalf of the club and hopefully local sponsors. Drinks for purchase, remember "cash only bar".
The event details did say earlier “You will be able to bring a partner and keep them the whole night or switch it up if needed”. We posted this from the start but are making a small change. Traditionally, you don’t have a partner for the night at most Euchre Tournaments. You may or may not end up with the person you came with. We have you draw a card when you come in, to be at a table of 4 and move from there. We want this to be a fun night and meet new people!
Rules will be added at a later date. We are in the process of finalizing them for you!
If you would like to sponsor the night or a prize, feel free to send us a direct message or reach out to Chris Hammer via Facebook or any members of the SFSC club.
To "sign up" for this event, click on the "going" tab for this event or contact Chris Hammer via Facebook messenger or email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
