Exciting news from Jamie Uson: “We won! Five years ago, Stephanie and I stepped into leadership at a time when our organization was in serious trouble. We had just $70 in the bank and over $30,000 owing to the CRA. Today, thanks to the unwavering support of an incredible board of directors, the leadership at Bon Echo Park, and a hardworking team past and present, we’ve funded over $1 million in infrastructure, programming, accessibility, signage, and capital improvements within the park. Tonight, we’re proud and humbled to receive the Lennox & Addington Business Excellence Award for Hospitality and Tourism. Turnarounds like this don’t happen by accident. They take grit, strategy, and a shared commitment to excellence. Thank you to every staff member who helped us get here—and especially to Stephanie. This would not have been possible without all of you. Absolutely incredible to have such great North of 7 representation at the L&A Business Excellence Awards. It’s great to see such a dedicated group of people driving economic growth in our community. Congratulations to everyone.”

April 17, 7:30pm - The Perth and District Historical Society Presentation, called ‘Canadian, eh?, Part II’. We continue with our journey of exploring our Canada. It is a chance to learn, or in some cases relearn, about different aspects of the country and its citizens. This can be revealing or amazing. It’s a case of “Did you know that?” or “This is actually Canadian!” Canada is a country of immense size and regional character sprinkled with a sense of humour. For example, where would one find a UFO landing pad? What has Canada and Canadians given to the world? Consider connections such as: peanut butter to baby food; electric wheelchairs to road markings; time zones to instant replays. The list of products either partially or completely developed by a Canadian is more extensive than one appreciates. The fact that most Canadians know little of the accomplishments of our fellow citizens probably speaks a bit of our national character of being modest. The presentation is at the Royal Canadian Legion, Perth-Upon-Tay, Branch 244, Home of the Hall of Remembrance, 26 Beckwith St. E. in Perth. The usual “Toonie Fee” applies. For information, contact Ellen Dean at 613-264-8362. Our website at www.perthhs.org has additional information about us and items of interest related to Perth and district.
