Once upon a trail, the Frontenac ATV Club revved up for a season of high-octane adventures and heartfelt community initiatives. With engines roaring and spirits soaring, the club tackled trails in 2024 and touched hearts in countless ways.
Let's start with their grand booth at the Quinte Sports Show. Over two-and-a-half days, their stall buzzed with excitement as thousands stopped by to chat about their club, trails, and county. They gained 17 new members, renewed 13 memberships, and even helped renew 18 memberships for other OFATV member clubs. Talk about networking on wheels!
Their Annual General Meeting (AGM) was a success. A new Board of Directors was elected, and ONCA-compliant bylaws were nailed down. Club rides to Wheelers Pancake House were a hit, with over 150 machines revving their way to maple syrup heaven.
And then there were the poker runs – not one, but two! The Back Road Poker Run and the Backward Back Road Poker Run had attendance soaring beyond their wildest dreams. They also enjoyed a club run to Calabogie, filling the patio of the Red Neck Bistro, and several mid-week rides showcasing the breathtaking scenery.
Their last ride of the season saw over 40 machines on the move, joined by many non-member riders. They even joined the Sydenham Christmas Parade at the last minute, with 25 fully decorated machines spreading holiday cheer and candy to delighted spectators.
But it's not all about the rides. The Frontenac ATV Club is a true community partner. They placed and maintained portable comfort stations and trash/recycling stations along the trails, invested in bicycle repair stations, and made significant contributions to trail improvements and dust suppression.
Their charitable spirit shone brightly this season. They collected 155 pounds of food for the Southern Frontenac Community Services Food Bank, provided winter coats and boots for local children, and supported the Verona Lions Club Christmas Dinner. Thanks to their generous members, they've warmed hearts and feet alike.
Their Trail Wardens were the guardians of their trails, showing dignitaries and delegates the best of Frontenac, assisting with the Gravel Cup, and ensuring trail etiquette was upheld. They even had a close call with the O.P.P. SAVE team, but everyone emerged unscathed.
Trail maintenance was a top priority, with volunteers logging hundreds of hours clearing brush, removing trees, and repairing culverts. They re-planked the Bridge at Sharbot Lake and began installing signage to indicate trail difficulty levels.
A big shoutout to their sponsors – Muddy Waters Restaurant, Mr. Kitchens, and Peters Drugs – for their unwavering support. David Peters, your candy cane donation made the Sydenham Parade extra sweet!
As they gear up for 2025, they're planning more amazing club rides, starting with a trip to Wheelers Pancake House.
