We are newer permanent residents in South Frontenac (Buck Bay, Bobs Lake) and wanted to share our experience on why we chose Frontenac to live. We had spent the last 25 years vacationing at my brother’s cottage on White Lake (SF) and we were comfortable in the area.
My wife and I grew up in Ottawa but had spent the last twenty-five years working and raising our kids in the east end of Toronto. In 2017, we began searching for a property that would bring us closer to Ottawa to be nearer to family and
friends. Our criteria included being on the water, having some land and being within an hour of White Lake. Our search took us over much of south and central Frontenac as well as towards Westport. We searched and visited scores of properties in 2017 and 2018 eventually
purchasing our new home on Bob’s Lake and took occupancy in late spring 2018.
We checked many of our boxes with our place as we are 10 minutes from my brother’s cottage on White Lake with a comfortable 3-bedroom, 2-bathroom bungalow on a little more than 1.5 acres. We have also been lucky to have gained wonderful neighbours who we have grown
to include as close friends.
As our eventual retirement property, we spent the first few years using the property for weekends and vacations as well as renting to help off-set costs. The pandemic gave us an opportunity to work remotely (between Toronto and Ottawa) and the decision to move full time here by selling our Toronto home in 2022.
We have been taken by the area and living by the water. Often, I will wake up in the morning and see the sunrise by the lake and end up by mid-day driving down the Gardiner and seeing the CN tower. It is safe to say that the return visit is a lot more pleasurable. We spend a fair
amount of time just relaxing on our pontoon boat in the afternoon of fishing in the morning.
The home along with my brother’s cottage has become a destination for our families hosting a cottage weekend in July as well as Thanksgiving for over thirty. Our kids and their friends are often visitors as they get to retreat from the city and enjoy hanging and being on the water.
We often have a Sibs weekend with my brothers and sisters coming to visit and enjoy hanging out together.
We have discovered the ATV trails over the last couple of years and will often travel to Verona, Godfrey or Sharbot Lake to do chores and pick up groceries or visit a hardware store. We joined the OFATV this year and did an overnight fall trip with friends to Calabogie this year that was very enjoyable. For restaurants, golf and entertainment we are usually in Verona, Sharbot Lake and Westport with some trips to Kingston.
We are embracing shopping and working with local vendors in the area with everything the area has to offer. We love all seasons and getting to know both full time and cottage neighbours.
