Boys Varsity Hockey:
It has been a hectic post-season for the Golden Eagles Varsity boys hockey team. It started on February 20th, when they took the ¼ final over Napanee DSS comfortably, 6-2. Sydenham was the favourite in that game, having finished 4th in the regular season, one place ahead of Napanee, which had finished 5th with a 5-4 record.
In the semifinal, on Tuesday, February 25th, they were more of an underdog, facing third ranked Holy Cross. That set up the final, on Thursday the 27th, against Frontenac Secondary, which had a regular season record of 6 win , 1 loss, and 2 ties.
Undaunted, the Varsity Golden Eagles rallied to win the championship in a tight, 2-1 battle.
All of the games were played at the Invista Centre in Kingston.
Because of their KASSAA result, The Golden Eagles are back on the Invista Centre ice this week this week in the A/AA Eastern Ontario Secondary School tournament.
Jr. Girl’s Volleyball:
The team won the silver medal at the EOSSAA Jr. Girls AA Volleyball Championship on Wednesday, February 19th in Pembroke, Ontario. They beat the host school Bishop Smith and St Joseph’s from Cornwall in pool play, then beat Perth in the semi-finals before losing to Casselman Catholic School in the finals.
Sr. Boys Basketball:
The boys also won a silver medal at EOSSAA which was hosted at Sydenham High School on February 19th-20th. They lost their first game to Thousand Islands Secondary School but pulled it around and won against L’Escale in their second game, earning themselves a spot in the semi-finals. They beat Bishop Smith in the semifinals and rematched with TISS in the finals. The boys kept it close right until the end and earned the silver medal. ■
