The 1st annual Mike Smith golf tournament at Rivendell Golf Club raised $22,000 for Project End Zone. Smith grew up playing hockey at the arena, and now plays with the Dallas Stars. Fellow Stars, Marty Truco and Steve Ott, along with players Ian McNeil, and Jana Hefford from the women’s national team, joined with 25 celebrities at the tournament, which was held on August 1. The tournament will be remembered by Rick Fox, who missed a hole in one, and $25,000, by seven inches on the 12th hole. Tournament organizer Terry Gibson thanks local businesses for sponsorship, and the staff at Rivendell, for hosting the event. The money raised brings the fundraising total to $400,000 for Project End Zone, whose overall goal is $680,000. The project is in the construction stage, and commemorative bricks for the wall of the addition to the arena will be available until the end of August. Come see the Project End Zone both at the Verona Festival this weekend.
