The story behind the upcoming banners in Northbrook and Cloyne:

The Lions club of Land O’Lakes, in a motion that was greatly welcomed by all members, voted to have banners along Highway 41 to celebrate veterans, both surviving and passed away.

The story started when club members Lynn & Paul returned from a tour of the Normandy – France, visiting the D-Day sites and the memorial of the Canadian fallen soldiers. The experience was moving.

Upon their return, and in driving through Tweed, the memorial banners of veterans lit the idea of celebrating veterans in Land O’Lakes.

The banners will be up mid-October to mid-November. The first year the banners will be in Cloyne and Northbrook, but the club intends to extend that to Plevna and Flinton in the following year.

The club has already acquired the necessary permits, and is sponsoring those costs, as well as sharing the cost of the individual banner printing.

There will be a total of 20 banners, which means that families interested in honoring and celebrating their beloved veterans should fill the form in the newspaper, or contact the Lions Club of Land O’Lakes to submit a request.

Decision of which banners will actually go up will be determined by availability of space and clarity of veteran photo submitted.

Veterans and sponsors do not have to be long-time residents of the area.

The club is very excited to see this project to completion, they are calling it: The Remembrance Day Banners.
