Sharbot Lake Criminal Court

Kaelum Whan, 19, pled guilty to a charge of impaired operation of a motor vehicle. He drove off the road in July of this year. When police found him, he was having difficulty standing and appeared to be impaired. A blood test showed the presence of the pharmaceutical xanax. He received a one-year driving prohibition and a $2,000 fine.

Sasha Baillargeon, 38, pled not guilty to a charge of assault, stemming from an incident that took place in January of this year. She was convicted of the charge, however, after a short trial. Judge Griffin gave her a conditional discharge, 12 months probation, and an order prohibiting her from possessing firearms for 3 years. She is also ordered to stay away from the victim in the case.

First appearances
Mark Thomas, 64, charged with failure to comply with court ordered conditions, requested a longer deferral until February for medical reasons. He will return on February 10th.

Susy Wickens 46, and Dustin Sweet, 26, are co-accused facing a charge of possession of stolen property under $5,000. Their case may be heard in Belleville, but they are still scheduled to return to Sharbot Lake on December 16.

Shelly Myers, 47, did not appear to face a charge of theft under $5,000, a matter that, according to Crown Counsel, is a good candidate for diversion. She received a warrant with discretion and the matter was deferred to December 16.

Ongoing
Randy Vankoughnett, 35, is facing two charges of break and enter with intent, and one charge of fail to appear in court. He has received legal aid, he reported to Judge Griffin, but his regular lawyer will not attend in Sharbot Lake so he needs to retain someone else. He will return on December 16.

A lawyer for Gypsy Villas, 60, who is charged with fraud over $5,000, brought a doctor’s letter indicating that Mr. Villas will undergo surgery in December and asked for a deferral until April or May. Judge Griffin, who tried Mr. Villas’ co-accused, Jessica Villas, cannot try his case and asked if anything had been done to get the case moving in Kingston. The matter will return to Sharbot Lake, once again in December, in hopes of getting a date in Kingston.

A verdict is due on that date in the Jessica Villas fraud case.
