Battersea

What is the pumpkin's job at the beach? A life-gourd!

News from the pumpkin patch... Ok Battersea, only 2 more sleeps until the big day! And the weather forecast looks spectacular! (At least it did when I wrote this) Just a reminder that our village will be a busy place on Saturday. We have taken extra steps this year to try to keep street parking to a minimum. Shuttle buses will run from both Storrington Public School and new this year, Gerald Ball Park in Sunbury. (A giant pumpkin thank you to Robert Hogan Bus Lines!) However, please expect some delays throughout the day. Check back here next week for contest winners, highlights from the day and this year's final news from the patch!

Storrington Stinger News... The annual corn roast and open house was a huge success! Special thanks goes to Ken Sands for both the corn & cooking! The junior and intermediate classes stepped up, shucking all the corn and helping with table set up. Awesome kids! Staff made the school welcoming for all and enjoyed an evening with families.

Way To Go Stingers! The Terry Fox run rocked! With donations still coming in, the school is already over $1300, easily surpassing their $1000 goal. I hear that there will be a fun dance afternoon in the near future, giving these kids a chance to celebrate this amazing accomplishment! (Teacher's beware...I think there is pie throwing in the plan as well!)

Cloyne - Northbrooke

by Nancy Skipper

News from Pine Meadow Nursing Home: “Cheers for Beers, our men's club had a chance to taste some different kinds of beer. We also had a group of residents who got together and built the wooden drink holders. We have a talented group here. I think the smiles on their faces show the fun they had or lack of smiles because they are enjoying their beverages. Check out photos on their FB page.

News from St. Killian’s Church: “What a fantastic and successful turnout we had today. We set a record, selling 100 portions of chili along with all our yummy baked goods. We can’t thank you enough for your continued support of our fundraising events throughout the year!” check out photos on their FB page!

News from Finnegan’s General Store: “Thanksgiving Food Drive. Let’s see how much Ward 1 can collect. Drop off at Finnegan’s from now until October 3rd, Wednesday to Friday 830-230 pm or on Saturdays from 12-4 pm. Everything collected will be taken to the food bank in Cloyne.”

News from the Little Boutique Consignment Store: “Boutique is Open — But We Need YOU! I’ve opened Little Boutique right here in the heart of Cloyne. As a woman entrepreneur running two businesses, one in Durham, where I moved from and one in this community, I’ve built everything from the ground up because I believe small towns deserve beautiful shops and thriving main streets. But here’s the truth: small businesses don’t survive on “likes” or “shares.” They survive when people walk through the door, shop, and support local. Without that, businesses close. And when businesses close, so do communities — the jobs, the gathering places, the charm that makes small towns special. At Litte Boutique, you’ll find carefully curated clothing, accessories, and unique styles you can’t get in big-box stores. Every dollar spent here goes right back into Cloyne — supporting local families, creating opportunities, and keeping our community vibrant. If you’ve ever said you believe in supporting Canadian small businesses — now’s the time to show it. Come shop, find something you love, and help keep local alive. Please help share so we can continue to thrive and grow right here in Cloyne! Thank you for your support.

Henderson

by Jean Brown

Our sister church in Arden rocked their big breakfast on the weekend and it was a great opportunity to eat (my favourite activity) and visit. The baked beans and vegetable mash were both phenomenal and all home made. Wow!!

Now, this coming Saturday Oct. 4 all roads lead to Henderson for our Henderson United Church and UCW Hall’s Vendor bash from 10am – 2pm at our Hall- 2384 Henderson Rd. Can you believe that our little village maintains a cemetery and also both a church – as part of a conglomeration with Arden and Mountain Grove churches; and a hall in conjunction with the Township. We are collaborators and proudly offer our bash which features- over 40 vendors from all over the place, bucket draw, 50/50, live music with Jim MacPherson and friends, bake sale, yummy food to purchase. Bring your duck hunters in their camouflage clothes (Leave your guns at home) and let them tank up on our church food, visit and tell us all about the hunt. It will be old home week. Bring your lawn chair and set a spell with us listening to Jim MacPherson and friends on open mike. We’ve got an indoor flush toilet and an outdoor jiffy biffy- so have a flush or two on us and rock on!! Rain date is Sun. Oct. 5 after church, from 10am - 2pm at our hall.

Henderson is about to experience a population boom- with all the folks coming to the vendor bash, and the expected March birth to Rebecca (Kelsey) and Lane Miller whom we love to pieces. I think there’s something in the water up here!!

Quote of the Week: “Colors are the smiles of nature.” [Leigh Hunt]

Smiles are all around us even if the much-needed rainfall has caused some of it to paint the ground in multiple shades of red, yellow, brown and orange. So what a surprise for me (Alice) to have lilacs blooming in September!

After 7pm, until 10pm, drop in and catch up with Grads, please do! Cash Bar.

Still feeling the Sydenham pride. SHS 1990 decades reunion the following Friday night. The day after Bubba Bowl Friday October 10th 2025, 8pm-12am - Sydenham Legion Branch 496. Cash Bar $10 at the door (to help cover cost of rental, food and decor). Unfortunately, the original plan of being able to attend Bubba Bowl (football under the lights) before can't happen because that event has been changed to the Thursday night instead of Friday(P.A.)
