NFLT Fall Production Takes A Jump To The Left!
In honour of it’s 50th anniversary, NFLT is presenting “The Rocky Horror Experience” on the evenings of Friday November 14th and Saturday November 15th at 8 PM Oso Hall in Sharbot Lake.
It is unlike any production they have ever launched. It will be a hybrid showing of the movie, NFLT singers and dancers, and hopefully audience participation.
Rocky Horror Picture Show was written by Richard O’Brian and Jim Sharman and first released in 1975 and was an instant bomb: panned by critics and ignored by audiences.
So why are they doing this? Well…. By 1978 the movie had become a cult phenomenon. Movie theatres across the world were having midnight screenings with audiences coming in full regalia and interacting with the characters on the screen.
The film is still in limited run and is continuing to wow audiences as the longest running theatrical release in film history! Both film and stage production have their long-time devoted fans but continue to attract new, young audiences to this day. Tim Curry (the original Frank-N-Furter) feels the success of the movie is that “it gives anyone permission to behave badly. So whatever your choice of badly is - enjoy it!”
It is an homage to Science Fiction and B Horror films that were made between the 1930s through the 60s. A naive young couple find themselves stranded at a spooky castle, searching for help when their car breaks down. In a nod to Frankenstein, they happen to show up on the night that Frank-n-furter (the mad scientist) is unveiling his latest creation to a motley crew of strange and unusual characters.
Created in Britain it is said that the costuming was a precursor to the coming punk/alternative rock scene.
Lily Legacy approached the NFLT executive in 2024 saying her dream was to direct Rocky Horror. Most of the executive were lifelong fans of the movie and knew it verbatim. Once she made the proposal there was no going back.
This will be an interactive performance and audience participation is encouraged. Free prop bags are being offered to those who arrive in costume.
Tickets are available at Kick and Push Brewery, the C4 Grocery store in Arden and through executive members of NFLT or call Jan at 613-305-2895
