Calendar Fundraiser For Joe Green
Terry Harrington is one of a number of photographers who love the B&B Memorial Show and Shine event that has taken place for the past six years, on the 4th Saturday in August.
The first Show and Shine was a small, very emotional event for the organisers, because the B & B of the show's title were Bailey Green and Blake Young, two young men with a shared love of wheeled transportation, who both died very young. It also took place in 2020, in the heart of the pandemic. By 2021, the Show and Shine was a full-fledged event, raising over $10,000, a total that has been met or surpassed every year since.
And every year it remains both a joyous and emotional event for the families behind it, and for people who come out, and for the organisations that received support from the fundraising juggernaut that the Memorial Show and Shine has been from the start.
This past summer, there were about 300 cars entered into the car show, and there was about $13,000 raised for the South Frontenac and Central Frontenac Fire and Rescue Departments, plus 824 pounds of food for the food bank and $1470 cash for South Frontenac Community Services.
This year there was an extra set of emotions infusing the Show and Shine. Trish and Joe Green are Bailey’s parents, and organise the show with the Young family, and other members of a tight-knit group, and Joe has been sick with cancer.
Joe is a fixture in Harrowsmith, working with his dad at Jim’s Auto, but is unable to work now because of his health.
Terry Harrington, who is running a photography business called photopop.ca, wanted to do something.
So, he gathered some of his photos and some provided by his colleagues Ben Wooby and Chris Johnson, who also took photos at the Show and Shine last August, and built them into a 13-month calendar.
“I really wanted to do something for the family, but wasn't sure how to help, but was able to create a calendar with cars in the B & B Memorial, to raise money for Joe and his family. I really want them to be able to spend as much time together as they can, and hope the proceeds from the calendar helps them to be able to do that.”
The calendar starts on December 1, and is available for purchase now.
Calendars are $15 each, with all proceeds going to help Joe and his family. You can pick up a calendar at one of these amazing local businesses: Jim’s Auto – Harrowsmith, Muddy Waters – Verona, Prime Take-Out – Harrowsmith. Mike’s Pizza – Sydenham, and Frontenac Auto Service – Sydenham.
“I am hoping to add more locations soon,” said Terry Harrington, “I am just getting started on this and I have a website where people can go for information as well, photopo.ca .”
