Barn Fire Near Snow Road Station

Firefighters from North Frontenac and Lanark Highlands arrived quickly to the scene of a barn fire in Snow Road, just after 8am on Sunday, November 30th.

But even before the firefighters were called, the fire was working its way through the large barn, which was a landmark in the local community. The barn is the old Gemmill barn, located across from Gemmill Sand and Gravel just south and east of Snow Road on the Elphin-Maberly Road.

The Frontenac detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating the fire, as is the Ontario Fire Marshall’s office.

The current owner of the barn had done extensive renovations to the ground floor and the mow level, which was being used to store antiques. She was on scene, having called the fire in from her house. There were no injuries and there was no livestock in the barn.

OPP officers arrived later, while firefighters were already on scene battling the fire.

“The fire is considered suspicious,” according to an OPP report that came out on Monday, December 1.

Anyone with information that could assist the investigation is asked to call the Frontenac OPP at 1-888-310-1122 and refer to incident E251614657.
