Wolf Pack Gives Hunter a Scare

Josh Ashbaugh was out hunting last Saturday (December 6) on Crown Land near the Otter Creek Lakes, south of Kaladar. At about 4pm, he heard “a subtle noise” behind him. The following is his account of what happened then:

“You could imagine my surprise when 6 feet behind me was a wolf. I jumped up and faced him straight on and was even more startled when he did not move at all, just faced me down. I lunged at him and yelled ‘beat it’ a couple times but he just took a couple steps back and continued to stare at me. When I got a little more aggressive still he moved back a little further. That’s when I reached over for the crossbow, as I started getting nervous.”

“He moved just inside the thicket and stayed there for another moment or two when I heard from separate directions two more coming. I heard them group up just inside the thicket. I sat there, pulled out my knife and tried to have that cigarette thinking that they would just leave or runoff somewhere after a couple minutes, still hearing them right behind me, got nervous and started moving towards my hunting partner.

“When I arrived at his location told me that he had just seen two more coming towards me.

Needless to say our hunt was over and we headed out of that bush.”
