How The Grinch Stole Christmas at Loughborough PS

This year’s graduating class at Loughborough had decided they wanted to do a special project to celebrate their final year. What they came up with was pretty amazing: a musical involving all the students from grades 3 to 8; they wrote and produced their own musical version of the Grinch and Christmas.

Director Isla Oatway has had a lot of stage experience, and she had a strong crew: she and co-director Gwen Euwes and their grade 8 cohorts developed a musical with two Grinches; the young Grinch, and the older one, showing how the Grinch had become embittered about Christmas due to an unhappy childhood. Needless to say, all worked out in the long run!

The dress rehearsal went amazingly well, given the huge cast, the songs, dances, storyline, and physicality of managing entrances and exits of such a large cast. Teacher Alan McDonald was in the background, helping with the sound system, offering a few “method acting” tips for the crowd scenes, but this was truly a student production.

It has by now been enjoyed by family and friends.
