Christmas Editiorial
As we come to the end of 2025, it is apparent that global impacts on the national and provincial economy have had a local impact as well. While our region is buffered somewhat from downturns in manufacturing and resource extraction industries, the ripple effect is felt here.
For those of us who have prospered in recent years, buoyed by jobs in cities where we can easily commute, virtual work, and growth in the housing and construction sectors, the prospects for the next year or two are not necessarily as bright as they have been in the years following the end of the COVID pandemic.
But, based on ballooning use of local food banks, and difficulties in covering rent, some of us are already in the midst of real financial hardship, and the need for us to help each other out whenever we can, is only getting stronger.
No doubt, our communities will hold together no matter what challenge we face over the next couple of years.
At the Frontenac News, we would like to wish our readers all the best over the holiday season, and the coming winter. As is our custom, we will not be publishing the paper for two weeks over the holidays, and the first issue of 2026, our 55th year as a publication, will come out on Thursday, January 8th.
2026 promises to be another year full of surprises, and we look forward to covering it. It is also a municipal election year, and we look forward to covering that, along with introducing new features to our print and online news service.
Happy Christmas
