Addington Higlands Pivots on Denbigh Bridge Street Plan

At their last meeting on December 13, Addington Highlands Council gave the go-ahead for public works manager Brett Reavie, to try and tender for the installation of a culvert under Bridge Street, in Denbigh, before March 15.

The reason for the deadline is that after that date no work can be done in the vicinity of Denbigh Lake until after the fish spawning season, which would result in a delay until mid-summer, closing the main through street in the small hamlet, until then.

When he appeared before Council last week, January 12, Reavie said that working towards a March 15 deadline for a project that required engineered drawings to ensure a proper end product, was not realistic.

Instead, he proposed renting a road plate to span the gap in the road that has been formed by the failed culvert, in order to allow for passenger vehicles to use the road until a full replacement is completed, late summer or fall of 2026.

“This proposal gives us a good option to do the work correctly, minimise the risk to the municipality, and allows local traffic to use the road ... to be honest with you, I had a knot in my stomach all over the holidays about this tender. I hate to put the township at risk over something like this, I would hate to see money spent on a bad solution.”

Council accepted Reavie's proposal.
