North Frontenac Council Report
Rural Frontenac Community Services (RFCS) provides youth outreach and Early ON programs for pre-schoolers in North Frontenac.
Youth Program Supervisor Sarah McCullough, accompanied by RFCS Executive Director Louise Moody, brought a presentation about the RFCS Youth Program activities in North Frontenac, in support of a request for funding support of $6,000.
Mayor Lichty said that he “really appreciates” all the work that RFCS does in the township. He said that the request for $6,000, being the same as previous years, has already been included in the 2026 township budget, but since the township’s budgeting takes place earlier now, it would have been a problem if RFCS was seeking anything beyond that.
He asked that RFCS provide their annual request in November from now on, so they will have the option to “up the ask” if necessary.
Electronic Participation in Meetings
Councillor Hermer gave notice that he will be bringing forward a motion at the next meeting to reconsider the township’s policy regarding electronic participation at open meetings. The meetings policy has already been amended to eliminate electronic participation in closed meetings, and both aspects of the procedural bylaw will be considered.
Amendment to OP To Discourage Rural Co-operatives
Councillor Huetl proposed that staff reconsider the township’s official plan in order to in order to “explore options” regarding the policy regarding rural cooperatives on waterfront. Council approved the motion, and a council and public debate on the policy is anticipated once staff bring back a report. This initiative came about in response to the Lafolia Lane Official Plan amendment proposal that council ultimately rejected. That council decision is the subject of an appeal to the Ontario Land Tribunal (OLT). The case is currently at the Preparatory Conference stage in advance of a substantive OLT hearing..
