The Lions Club of Land O’ Lakes Roar

Lions Clubs’ members often visit one another and attend meetings at clubs. There is a feeling of camaraderie, a familiarity that surpasses the boundaries of one club and reaches to all other clubs. In that respect we were recently, at our Lions Club of Land O’ Lakes, visited by members of Battawa Lions Club. Naturally every club has its own intricacies, modes of operation, and general dispositions. However, we all share a common language, and that is a language of service to our communities and fellowship within our clubs.

We shared ideas of service and played games of fellowship. Agatha Christie once said: "It is a curious thought, but it is only when you see people looking ridiculous that you realize just how much you love them."

In a moment of all fun and games, our Acting Tail Twister (Lion responsible for bringing humour to the club) forced us into a game of toothpicks hunting. Our laughs were certainly loud as we competed for a much-coveted prize of a bag of candy!

My heart is always full when I see us, our entire club, acting like children. I can only ever imagine being this ridiculous in the presence of those that are, despite lack of blood lineage, family. I couldn’t agree more with Christie. Playing those games, being ridiculous, is the easiest form of realizing how much love there is.

Which brings me to the month of Love. In a couple of days, we will celebrate Valentine's Day. The saint of love. Naturally, none of us ever stop to research who is the saint or why he is celebrated. Yet we all exchange greetings on the day, possibly cards, sometimes presents. That love transcends the boundaries of a couple to include love of friends, families and communities. It is in that act of love that the idea of hosting families for Family Day (Feb 16) began last year. Everyone is welcomed, free of charge, to share games, crafts, and a meal.

From a place of LOVE, we SERVE.

Till we meet again in a Roar, sip a nice glass of wine with your loved ones, reach out to a lonely neighbour with a Valentine’s Day card, and make sure to join us for an outstanding Comedy Show and Dinner March 28 at the club.
