Generators in Central Frontenac
I appreciate the excellent job Michela Gossage did Jan 27th at the Central Frontenac Council meeting addressing Originative Energy Solutions' proposal to plant six GE biodiesel generators at the corner of Westport Road and Hinchinbrooke Road N. This isn't a small-town fix; it’s an industrial power plant, that Council is being asked to greenlight.
Doesn't take a genius to see it’s wrong putting effectively 6 jet engines within 1 km from many residential homes in a small community right up against sensitive wetlands. If the grid needs more power, there are places for it—airports, landfills. The quiet community that we ask our CF Council to protect is where people live and wildlife require clean water, not an industrial zone.
In Mississippi and Australia, folks rebelled against the same TM2500 systems expressing major concerns over the noise, exhaust, and constant fuel trucks on the roads. It’s a bad deal for everyone but the company and it’s not uncommon for these sites to be flipped to larger corporations shortly after completion.
We’re asking the Council to do the right thing and decline this request. If this moves forward, the township is going to be looking at serious issues and pushback. Environmental risks to the wetlands and the hit to our property values. Issues the Council would never intentionally want to create.
Hundreds have already signed an online petition at https://c.org/ptYPDNgft9 to urge the council to stop this project before it starts. More info can be seen on the council’s YouTube recorded Jan 23rd meeting.
This is an excellent opportunity for the Council to show the leadership and support we rely on them for.
